This album is an absolute gem. It is made by real people for their own entertainment and the entertainment of their neighbours. There is no attempt to make a commercial sound. "From the heart" is an overused phrase, but this is unsentimental heartfelt music with a rare authenticity. It is a joy to behold.

This is simply one of the best blues recordings that I have ever heard.
Susan Tedeschi has an unique and powerful voice that links all of the tracks together yet all the tracks sound completely different. The CD is 100% blues whether loud and aggressive or slow and brooding.
Wonderful stuff.

I've had this album for some years now and it remains my favourite instrumental album of all time. Although I'm no musician I think I can hear and appreciate good music, but friends of mine who play semi professionally tell me the work on this album is sensational. Jerry Douglas is my favourite instrumentalist (I've seen him live a few times and he has to be seen to be believed) and for me he produces the most expressive sounds in any kind of acoustic (or electric) music. My best friend, a bass player, says that what Edgar Meyer does with a bass is almost impossible. And Russ Barenberg (who I've also seen) has the most laid back style.

in a very very long time.... I hadn't heard any Dougie Maclean before this, but thought the clips sounded nice enough. What an understatment... this is music that is heartwrenching and hauntingly beautiful. These renditions of traditional scottish music are simply and unequivocably the best I have ever heard. While I've always liked Robert Burns I have never heard his passion, melancholy, and fervour brought to life so fully. I'd give this 100 stars if I could - 5 just seems so few.

I first bought this in 1976 after seeing the Chieftains on the same bill as Freddie King and Eric Clapton !That day they had a profound effect on me as does this album.It is a collection of tunes beautifuly played by musicians who both care and love the music they are playing.There are no bad tracks,my personal favourites being "Drowsy Maggie","Morning Dew" and "Mna Na Eirrean".Whenever I hear the last track I am transported back to my native Ireland. A wonderful Irish album stunningly executed....and if youre ever in Clifden Paddy Malloys pub is equally as special ! Now whatever happened to that Eric Clapton fellow ?
