I love tranquil "white noise" and the thunderstorms are great. But I really enjoy this. It's straight rolling gentle surf. The water lapping on the shores, the rising and falling off the water. Great for relaxing, super mood-setter for writers. There is music overlaid over this just straight surf...puts me in mind of moonlight stroll on white beaches in the Hebrides.

I've listened to several recordings of Tuvan music and this is the one which I feel comes closest to nomadic origins of the form. An almost painful melancholoy and sense of unending distance pervade many of the tracks on this disc. Tuvas more recent history is not, however, ignored; a Tuvan version of the communist 'internationale' is also included.

The instrumental part of Capercaillie album "Crosswinds" is the kind of old-fashioned records that are typical of the beginnings of many celtic bands - Clannad is a good example. But "Crosswinds" is also a not-to-miss album for the vocal part - because it is blessed by five of the most outstanding solo performances in Gaelic language from the lead vocal of the Capercaillie band, Scottish singer Karen Matheson. You will fall in love with the soprano-like "Soraidh Bhuam Gu Barraidh", the airy "Am Buachaille Ban", the soulful and sweet "Ma Theid Mise Tuilleagh", the solemn "Urnaigh A 'bhan Thigreach" and the celestial "An Ribhinn Donn". If you like soulful voices with a lyric and limpid richness of tone and a strong ability to illuminate the accents ... Read More:
Long one of Israel's most popular singers, Ofra Haza broke through to international recognition during the mid-1980s when her traditional music found favor on the U.K. club circuit, its success leading to a series of unlikely pop projects. Born in Tel Aviv on November 19, 1959, Haza was the daughter of Yemenite parents forced to flee from their native country's Muslim regime; at the age of 12 she joined the renowned Hatikva theatrical troupe, and with the group cut a number of award-winning records before serving a compulsory two-year tour of duty in the Israeli army. Upon her discharge, in 1979 she mounted a solo career, becoming a star not only at home but also in neigboring Arab nations; in 1983, her recording of "Chai!" placed second in the ... Read More:

I first bought this in 1976 after seeing the Chieftains on the same bill as Freddie King and Eric Clapton !That day they had a profound effect on me as does this album. It is a collection of tunes beautifuly played by musicians who both care and love the music they are playing. There are no bad tracks,my personal favourites being "Drowsy Maggie","Morning Dew" and "Mna Na Eirrean".Whenever I hear the last track I am transported back to my native Ireland. A wonderful Irish album stunningly executed....and if youre ever in Clifden Paddy Malloys pub is equally as special ! Now whatever happened to that Eric Clapton fellow ?

Okay, I have always been a huge fan of smooth soul and R&B, and Roberta Flack has always been the perfect mix of those two genres. I usually like my soul music with a little oomph, but damn, I melt each and every single time I listen to Roberta's music. Not since Dionne Warwick has there been a singer who sang her songs so effortlessly. This is a rather short compilation, but it's her first, and still the best if you ask me. All of her greatest hits are here. From the stunning, and hopelessly romantic "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face", to her legendary collaboration with Mr. H on "Where Is the Love". But these are far from being the only highlights on this album. Her reading of The Shirelle's "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" is fantastic, and "Feel Like Makin' ... Read More:

I am largely reviewing this by proxy as I have only just ordered it, but I have a considerable number of Billy Bennett 78's and have never understood why this guy isn't as well known as Max Miller.
I assume his comparative obscurity has to do with the fact he died in the 1940's when Music Hall was still popular, wheras Miller died at the "end of the pier" in the 60's.
Bennett's chief delight is in monologues (similar to Holloway but far more surreal and closer to Spike Milligan)often, though not always, accompanied by an orchestra.
There are (by today's standards) some questionable racial connotations to some of them, but these were part and parcel of the genre and don't really amount ot anything seriously abusive:
