Definitely the reissue of the year for me so far. This is a timeless, deeply soulful, uplifting and natural sounding album.
Should have a wide appeal for non-reggae fans too, there are no dubs, effects or guitar solos and crosses many musical genres.
If you like Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On", dive straight in, it's that good...

Like lots of Reggae/ Carribean Soul this album really strikes a chord when you are under the influence. The groove is somewhere between Church singer, Soul rebel hornplay and slow reggae drift groove to your average man in the street.
But then you listen to the album as a whole while really relaxed and you actually wonder how an album can be created that is so utterly timeless and even verging on futuristic! I believe this album was one of the first Reggae albums to use a drum machine and it augments the Dub styling and core Religious values along with the knowledge that Max Romeo was a down and dirty dub artist before and after.
The album is centred on inner peace and making things right and I wonder if the album is slightly ... Read More:

This was one of my favourite dub albums of the 80's. The reggae greats series were best-of compilations, good introductions to the bands featured, but this one was exclusively mixed, and essentially a dub version of Black Uhuru's Chill Out. To my ears Sly & Robbie's pure dub albums can sound too dry and sparse; no such worries here as Paul Smykle's remix produced a very lush spacey sound, nothing dull or repetitive, just an evolving, ambient, deep album. Even after 15 years of ambient and electronic music it stands up to repeated listenings. S & R's best ever album, alongside Language Barrier.

After the shock of just how well their almost garage-recorded debut album, "Signing Off" was received, UB40 found themselves a decent studio (not that the first album had bad sound in any way at all), found that they already had a reputation and considerable kudos amongst the punk/new wave fallout and laid down more of the same formula. As in "Signing Off", the band blended a rock steady, chugging reggae rhythm with Brian Travers' trademark deep saxophone and Ali Campbell's mournful, often incomprehensible voice to produce the UB40 sound. This time they expanded just a little to allow resident band toaster "Astro" free reign on dubby, vocally improvised tracks like "Lamb's Bread" and the intoxicating "Don't Let It Pass You By", with it brassy, almost ... This album explores the rougher edge of the band in classic tracks like the gripping Pomp and Pride and the hypnotic Louie Louie. There’s a joyous party atmosphere in the rousing choruses and the swaying beats. Daddy is a jazzy, bluesy song and doesn’t sound like reggae at all, while the title track is a tour de force of funky reggae. Toots vocalises a lot throughout, whith “la la’s” and “da da’s” to take the groove beyond words. Rough and rootsy, this album ranks among this legendary band’s finest moments.

King Tubby's music is the work of an absolute master. His timing in his mixes are beautiful, typified by the trumpet on the track mentioned above, just sublime. It does the same to me on every single listen to this album. What a great artist and this compilation is wonderful from start to finish

This is it, this is the must have soundtrack for the summers. Notting hill veterans Joey Jay and Norman have compiled a disc from roots classics, deep n deadly dubs and uplifting ska. the only thing this album lacks is a bit of dancehall but i still recomend you buy this album, get away from work, get into the sun, rap up your buds and lose yourself!!
