I don't really understand why Eddy Grant has somehow disappeared out of the main public's view, especially not after hearing this Greatest hits compilation (HMV doesn't even have it in their catalogue). Tracks such as "I don't wanna dance" and "Gimme hope Joanna" have a peculiar lasting effect on me. Eddy Grant's got a talent for capturing the essence of human life, and it really rocks.

A truly great record, not matching the stellar heights of Two Sevens Clash, but nevertheless the finest reggae money can buy. Diggit and let I and I groove in your pasta rasta.

Prior to Greensleeves acquiring the rights, none of Dr Alimantado's 45s had been released outside Jamaica, and he remained very much an obsxcure cult figure until Johnny Rotten named his "Born for a Purpose" as a great comfort to him after being attacked in the street.
Following this, it sadly became de rigueur for followers of punk, who usually knew next to nothing about reggae, to profess undying admiration for "the Doctor". Despite that cavil, this album does contain some of his finest recordings; the title track versions his own "Oil Crisis" (the voice chanting "help us" is his own), on Horace Andy's "Ain't No Sunshine" riddim, while "Poison Flour" rides a mid-seventies recut of the Partagons "Man Next Door", and "Gimme Mi Gun" ... I think most people in the UK have heard of these guys either from bieng into the genre but I and like most people I know were lucky enough to travel and socialise with the sourthern hemisphere gang and be inducted that way. The first track I heard was "Love your ways" and it stopped me in my tracks, dead.
The album is well put together and if funk is your thang then it's a must. Twists and turns with samples, awesome guitar riffs and electronic undertones to create a truly remarkable piece of work. Dirty Vegas meets Massiva attack meets Ska. Well worth checking out.

Excellent compilation from the DJ's behind DBC. DBC was the cult station broadcasting a mix of reggae, soul, soca, hip hop, dub from West London. This compilation includes some of the DBC jingles interspersed. Lepke (Leroy Anderson) and sister Miss P , Dr Watts, Mike Williams (Mike da Bike), Chuckie and others were a fantastic team. This comp., is the tip of the iceberg - but its a good start. The first disc is more lively dancehall style, the second disk is more laid back rocksteady/ska inspired. A good starter album for a reggae beginner, afficionados will probably have a lot of these tracks already.
For those of you, who like me listended (and still listen to my DBC tapes) - the sleeve notes give an excellent history and background ... Read More:
