This is one of those rare albums that ticks a wide range of boxes almost perfectly. It's groovy enough to dance to, varied enough to listen, mellow enough to have on in the background to and detailed enough to withstand repeated listening. I keep coming back to this CD, and 8 years since its release, it still sounds fresh. It has to be in my top 5. Buy it now!

A good Greatest hits very reasonably priced with lots of the Sisters Decca Hits although could have done with a few rarities thrown in for serious collectors of the Andrews sisters recordings. Quality of the transfers however is very good, if you dont have their greatest hits this is a good start.

Like her or not, there is no denying Amy Winehouse is hugely talented. This double album is packed with superb songs that are classic Winehouse grooves. Whether it be foot tap, jazzy undertones, contemporary or ballards her soaring unique voice is there for all to hear.
The album mixes in some live versions and a few different mixes, so you get a good blend of Amy's work.
If you like Back to Black you will adore this bumper collection of songs of Amy at her best.

A lovely introduction to Chet. But often with "best of" albums there is a lot of good music all crammed onto 1 cd, but I'm not complaining. I'm happy to have it in my Chet collection.

Make sure you do some reading up on Eric Dolphy before you buy this. Don't expect to hear anything resembling the winning Blue Note hard bop formula characteristic of the fifities and sixties. As far as Jazz goes this is way ahead of it's time, those who know the contemporary Jazz scene will know that there are plenty of acts out there who try and sound exactly like what you hear on this record.
OK, it's not easy listening. For me Dolphy's compositions are no way near as compelling as some of Ornette Colman's for example. It's quirky, mysterious, it has you scratching your chin trying to figure it all out. "Gazzelloni," starts off as very accessible before disappearing into some great flute loops. Add to that William's nuerotic sounding drums ... Read More:

For all of you who want smooth jazz, look no further! You have come to the king of swing. His band was easily the best at the time and will go down as one of the best of all time! What the Count created was something ver difficult to create, a swingin' big band. Very few have mastered the art of swing as Basie did.
"The Kid From Red Bank" is a fabulous opener and sets the tone of the album. The powerful ensemble sections followed quickly by a cool rhythm section and visa-versa. As always the band is helped along by fabulous soloists, the Count himself and many others in all sections. The trackes following are also absolutely stunning, the cool jazz above the very 'floatey' rhythm section. But almost certainly the best track on the album is "Li'l Darlin'. ... Read More:

This beautfully timed record stands shoulder to shoulder with, "No room for squares," as the classic in Mobley's body of work.
Hank's sweet, soulful sax effortlessly hums along on the operner and,"This I dig of you," accompanied by Chambers bass that just pings. Blakey had perfected his technique at this point and was at the very height of his powers, he works with the rest of the rhythm section like a magnificent steam train.
It all slides along to perfection on the effortlessly classy,"Dig Dis," Mobley's round sax bouncing to the rhythm. When you listen to his playing it all sounds so leisurely, like he never has the need to stretch himself
"Split Feelin," is a rolling bluesy number, again technically flawless. The track dovetails nicely into ... Read More:

Gosh, this took me back to my youth, the age of great and good expectations - the late 1950's and early 60's with their unmistakeable sound and sexy undercurrents.
Excellent recordings, great sound and that velvety sultry voice... Do they still make them like this? Don't know; but this double CD deserves to be in everyone's music library and to be listened to.
