This album is probably one of the best places to start in your love affair with Tom Petty. Once you hear his music there's no going back. He has a wonderfully distinctive voice and can play both rocking upbeat songs, as well as laid back chilled out ones. There are so many brilliant songs on this compilation, it would be hard to pick out any one for special mention. Needless to say I highly recommend it!

I stumbled across this Carly Simon album on Amazon and snapped it up as soon as I saw it because it contained so many of my favourite childhood records (You're So Vain, Nobody Does it Better etc.). A brilliant album and worth every penny.

It looks promising, though the editing is ghastly and som of the songs, like "Bad Girl", "Rain", "Fever", "You'll See", "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" and "This Used To Be ... Read More:

This album is so terrible. Infact the tracks were so terrible I sent mine back. If you want to listen to proper music, listen to REM and THE BEATLES.

When I saw Billy Bragg on tour recently he described himself as a 'Marmite artist', ie, you either love him or hate him. I don't know that is necessarily true. My husband somewhat reluctantly bought this for me for Christmas a few years ago after I'd requested it on the strength of the handful of Bragg songs that I knew from my teens (Sexuality, New England, Waiting for the Great Leap Forward).
Neither myself or my hubby really knew enough about BB from those few songs to understand what an amazing artist he really is. I reckon that there are a few people out there who are in that same position and this review, like the album, is for you. This is a great place to start on your Bragg conversion because it will give you a taste of the diversity of Billy's career. ... Read More:

This is by far the best Thompson Twins hits cd on the market. As many reviewer here will state there are many compilation cds avaliable and it can be a minefield trying to navigate your way through them. The 12" collection was interesting for the extended versions of Twins tracks many on cd for the first time but was severely lacking in the design and presentation department. With a generic cover part of a series of cds with an abstract picture of the Twins on the front. But this release uses the original Thompson Twins font and colours and three headed logo on front with decent pictures of the Twins. An aproach that I think works well.
But its musically that this compilation stands head an shoulders about the rest of the best of cds. It is the inclusion of these ... Read More:

Not every song is brilliant, but the gems make up for any weaker songs.
If you have young kids, I can guarantee they will love the brilliant "Flintstones" version.
The unmatched dance classic of "Love Shack" is pure class and is justification in its own right for buying this album.
In addition to the above two top-three UK smash hits, there are other gems on the album.
If you've never heard the wierdly brilliant "Rock Lobster" then you must ask yourself why not? - You will never hear a stranger or more infectious song. "Rock Lobster" was their only single to have charted in the UK top-40 twice (number 12 in the early 1980's and number 39 in 1979).
Their other popular top-twenty hit is the beautiful "Roam", which although not as insane ... Read More:

In the eighties, when pop music (at least in Britain) was dominated by synthesisers, the Bangles provided a contrast with their guitar-driven rock music. They were not alone, of course – Dire Straits and Bruce Springsteen also come to mind – but they were very much in the minority. The Bangles recorded a lot of upbeat, fun songs so did not always get the credit they deserved.
This compilation contains the three huge international hits that everybody remembers. Manic Monday is an up-tempo rocker. Walk like an Egyptian is a novelty song that (to some people) destroys their credibility but I love it. Eternal flame is a lovely ballad, more recently revived by Atomic Kitten who had a huge UK hit with it.
Apart from those three, they had several other hits, not ... Read More:

"Country Rock" might be the term used on the back of this, but what it actually is is great driving music. Members of the band form other well-known groups/musical phenomena - Loggins and Messina springing happily to mind. This is a wonderful way to hear the band's best numbers, especially if you're totally new to them, as I was, until about 6 weeks ago. Not only that, but you may just find it the ultimate in feel good music. It makes you want to put the hood down on your car and step on the gas. Oh, and I defy you not to love Rose of Cimarron. Glorious stuff.

As I write this review I read an email which said Bo Diddley had passed away after a long illness.
With only 2 Top 40 entries in the U K Diddley sold less than Chuck Berry but was just as influential.
He's probably a household name by now and certainly was at the time of the Stones and Yardbirds. And not forgetting the Pretty Things whose name came from a Bo song.
Essential though to Bo Diddley achieving any sort of fame were whites-that is even before the Stones there was Buddy Holly.
His music remained in the same turf-there was no attempts to launch himself as a soul singer.
The music's always going to be there
