Lots of the classical bits off of lots of his albums. Even includes bits off his Francesco Zappa LP.

A mere 4 stars because, like its companion volume "Strictly Commercial", it's not an *essential* Zappa album,

Surprisingly varied and interesting, but doesn't work as well as his "Guitar" compilations. I'd rather go away and listen to the tracks in their original context - but that's just me, go and make your own decision.

An appalling album which merits it's one star rating purely for the inclusion of the four tracks from their masterpiece 666. AGEAN SEA, THE FOUR HORSEMEN, BREAK and LAMENT are all nascent prog classics - beautifully played and produced, exquisitely written.

Sadly the rest of this bleak collection, blighted by poor sound and Demis Roussoss' wearying whinney of a voice show why the band were little known outside of mainland Europe.

If you're only wxperience of the band is 666, avoid like the plague.

Mightily disappointing.

His first foray after the end of Dixie Dregs, this album finds Steve Morse in excellent form. Now playing with a more conventional guitar-bass-drums unit (including old cohort Rod Morgenstern), the material on "Intro" is broadly speaking much more guitar-rock orientated than anything the Dregs produced. Without the violin/keyboard axis of Allen Sloane and T Lavitz (although Lavitz does guest on the track Mountain Waltz), blues and country influnces predominate, and the tracks are tighter and more concise, but this allows the man more room to demonstrate just what he can do with 10 fingers and 6 strings.

VDGG do not conform to the typical '70's prog rock formula. Thats why their music works so well. They are completley original and although their music is not immediate when it does grow on you, you'll never look back! This is a good album to start with if you have never heard any of their others. There is a broad cross section of tunes on this album that covers their erratic stop/start career from 1970 - 1977 ish. Witness the unique power of Hammil's voice and the crushing and stirring Hammond organs and the refreshing lack of lead guitar heroics! There is'nt a duff track on here but the best have to be 'Killer' 'Sleepwalkers' 'Man-ERG' and 'Still life' Moving and powerfull stuff which sadly never really made a huge commercial dent on the UK or US markets.
