Although these guys could never maintain a high level throughout each of their albums like skynyrd did, and as such never made a huge comercial impact, they are truly a great band to listen to - their style of music seems to be both fun in places and dark in others. In terms of southern rock, molly hatchet are certainly heavier than people like alman brothers or skynyrd, and actually i think this makes them really interesting.
as for the cd, i have no quibbles with the casing, leaftlet thing etc, all is of good quality, and the music itself is great.
Highlights for me include Gator Country, Flirtin' with disaster, Bloody Reunion, Boogie no more and the creeper, with 'Gator...' and '...Creeper' being probably my personal ... Read More:

Maybe Aerosmith were a bit premature in releasing a Greatest Hits in 1980 but I found this record disappointing.
For a Greatest Hits I found a lot of the tracks pretty average and I wouldn't be tempted to buy any of their studio albums as a result of listening to this.
Track One "Dream On" is by far the highlight for me. I didn't find the rest of the others very remarkable. A very dodgy cover of The Beatles "Come together" was a low point on the album.

This is one of the worst "Greatest Hits" albums Whitesnake have put out. Why ? It's because so many classic Whitesnake songs are missing on here. Where is the live favourite "Aint No Love In The Heart Of The City" ?. "Dont Break My Heart Again" ? "Ready An Willing" ?. The album does not feature enough of Whitesnakes early work and features too much of latter 80's albums 1987, and Slip Of The Tongue. If you are looking a introduction to Whitesnake buy "The Best of Whitesnake" instead. Dont waste money on this poor effort.

I spent a great deal of time with this band on the road and at shows taking photographs almost from their beginnings touring in Europe and the UK so I think I am in a reasonable position to say a few things and correct a few of other people's comments. Firstly they had a PLATINUM hit with Once Bitten Twice Shy it was a huge success for them and not a "claim" its a fact!. Secondly they are an EXCELLENT band whether live or on record and Mark Kendall is a superb guitarist well up with the Eddie Van Halens and Richie Sambouras. The rest of the band members consisted of Michael Lardie, Audie Desbrow, Jack Russell and for a long time Tony Montana though he has been left now for a number of yeaers. Wasted Rock Ranger was only ever on a limited edition double ... Read More:

This album was titled 'Essential' for a reason. It is an essential album for any CD collection. There are other essentials, Meat Loaf's 'Bat ot of Hell', Springsteen's 'Born in the USA', ZZ Top's 'Eliminator', and Queen's 'Greatest Hits I'. (by no means a definitive list).
It has 'Alabama', and it has 'Free Bird', and for the more seasoned southern rock fan it also has '3 Steps'. But it has so much more!
"Drifter can you make folks cry when you play and sing? Have you paid your dues, can you mourn the blues, can you bend them guitar strings?" asked David Allen Coe. Skynyrd can.
Every song tells a story, every one means something. That brings passion and honesty. You can tell that from the guitar playing, especially on ... Read More:

Donovan is clearly one of those artists where you can pick up the Greatest Hits collection and not have to worry about getting all the albums. The thing is the man had some great songs, regardless of whether they got high enough on the billboard charts to count as bona fide "hits." The great thing about Donovan is that you can get a bunch of people in a room, listen to his album, and then argue over what are his two best songs. You put "Hurdy-Gurdy Man," "Sunshine Superman," "Mellow Yellow," "Season of the Witch," and "Jennifer Juniper" on the short list and have everybody choose their two favorites. But if you notice that you and your significant other each picked two different songs, then take that as a sign that you do not have a fundamentally sound basis for your ... Read More:

Indeed, that's what I said to my wife when she presented me with this CD, her face a beaming smile of joy in that she had found a Motorhead CD she hadn't seen in our collection before. With gritted teeth I gave her a hug and thanked her and told her the news. "But it was only cheap!" she protested in defence, I can't do anything right, can I?"
Well, yes she can, and she did, because a compilation such as this will end up as one of the band's rarities, largely because most fans will ignore it for the reasons I would have done so had I found it myself.
It is a selection, of not bad tracks at that, from the Overkill, Bomber, Ace Of Spades, Iron Fist, Another Perfect Day and No Remorse albums, + the amalgamation with Girlschool on Please Don't Touch.

If you are new to the world of Guns N' Roses I urge you to go and pick up Appetite for Destruction and play the hell out of it. This is a good CD if perhaps you just want a mix CD for the car or whatever, but there is less of their groundbreaking debut album on here then I would have liked. Songs like Rocket Queen especially deserves a spot on this CD.

With a back catalogue the envy of most, a 3CD retrospective was always going to be difficult for Springsteen. Imagine how difficult it would be now though? - there's at least three stone cold classics on 'Devils and Dust' plus several from the Seeger Sessions experience that would all have to somehow fit on any new Springsteen 'essential'. What we do get, however, are some of the finest pieces of music ever committed to record. 'Jungleland', both 'Born...' songs, the thrilling 'Badlands' and the great 'Land of Hope and Dreams' are among the many highlights, while 'None but the brave' demonstrates just how much greater the Born in the USA album could have been (he left 'Frankie, 'My love will not let you down' 'Cynthia', and 'This hard land' off that album, to name but a few, ... If they had only left the world with "I'm Eighteen" they would still be remembered today. Rock's most subversive band at their commercially finest. Pure dynamite.
