Unlike the other reviewers I AM old enough to remember Barry White the first time around though I too enjoyed Ally McBeal.

BW first got into music as a musician & later as a talent spotter for record companies & then moving into the production side.

His first big hit was Love Unlimited's "Walking In The Rain" which featured BW speaking on the telephone to his girl friend.

Right from this early track (which charted in both the UK & the USA in the early 70s) the BW 'sound' could be heard: romantic strings, slushy vocals over a strong rhythm.

In many ways I'm almost glad that Cohen is loathed so much in some quarters. You used to be able to buy perfect copies of this on vinyl for a pound from boot-sales. You couldn't imagine a pound being better-spent. I won't go into great depth here: if you know the tracks (and you should) you'll know how resplendent and timeless they all are. But, for a bit of fun, I propose my own alternative list, had I compiled the original album. As follows: SUZANNE, STRANGER SONG, SISTERS OF MERCY, SO LONG MARIANNE, HEY THAT'S NO WAY TO SAY GOODBYE, BIRD ON THE WIRE, THE PARTISAN, AVALANCHE, FAMOUS BLUE RAINCOAT, JOAN OF ARC, WHO BY FIRE, FIELD COMMANDER COHEN.

Ok Robbie's had some great singles & big hits,but lets get to the point.South of the Border was one of the most underated singles of his Career.I Like most of Robbie's stuff,even Intensive Care & Rudebox grew on me,but why miss out the hits,i.e not making it a proper greatest hits from that era.(It's like Kylie's ultimate missing out the gem that was "some kind of bliss" If the record company make an updated greatest hits like other bands used to such as The Beautiful South,etc then please include this,as we are all sick of the predictable "angels" & "Let me entertain you" now.Sort it out peeps.

This is a great hits collection but you are better buying The Very Best Of Cher [2 Cd] best tracks on this album believe if i could turn back time and strong enough overall 10/10!

I only recently discovered Def Leppard after hearing the tracks 'Animal and 'Let's Get Rocked' on the music channels, both of which I loved, so I decided to give the greatest hits album a try. And I was blown away by the new tracks I heard, especially the emotional rock ballads 'Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad', 'When Love And Hate Collide', their most successful UK single, and the US number 1 'Love Bites'. These are my personal favourites, and I seem to have them on constant repeat. Other good songs include the more mainstream rock songs 'Animal' and 'Let's Get Rocked', as well as the songs 'Hysteria and 'Heaven Is'. In fact all the best songs feature on their hugely successful albums 'Hysteria' and 'Adrenalize', so a hardcore fan might prefer to get hold ... Read More:

It's hard to review this sort of thing, because you either liked it when it came out or you didn't. If you didn't, this review will hardly sway you. If you did, then you'll be buying it for the the memories.

It's got some great disco tunes on, some of which can be heard near kicking out time in clubs, or on the top floor of Pals (all you Ipswich lot).

A great buy and good to upload to your iTunes and pick and mix.

I love Elkie Brooks' music and this certainly captures some of her finer moments.

But a 'Best Of' compilation can only cherry pick the tracks that have come from a long line of albums, which in themselves show the style of the singer at that time.

So whilst these tracks are great to listen to, do yourself a favour and pick a couple of her other albums *first* - then come back to this one to get all the great tracks in one place, but having the background to really appreciate them.
