A marvellous collection of some of ABCs catalogue of excellence on a pretty reasonably priced CD.It's like a night out in an '80's disco but without some of the godawful dross produced by certain other bands of the time,that you had to endure!!
ABC were a top '80's band & the hits they had were a testament to the quality they produced.This CD is a really enjoyable nostalgia trip for those who enjoyed them first time around & a great starting point for those who may have just discovered them.
For me the pick of the crop for showing off Fry's vocal talent is "All Of My Heart" but classics like "Look Of Love", "Poison Arrow" & "When Smokey Sings" keep the quality coming.
A bargain in every way - buy,buy,buy !!

This is one of the rare occasions when an album of greatest hits is so complete, not only gathering all the great songs for the loyal fans, but also giving to new potential fans the chance to know the band in all their variety and success.

Sarah Cracknell's voice is dreamy, the 70s-like tunes nostalgic, almost cinematic, the music covering an area from dream pop to independent. This collection consists of two discs yet you can't get enough of it. Their biggest hits are all here, including 'You're in a bad way', 'Only love can break your heart', 'Pale Movie', 'Who do you think you are', 'Hobarts Pavement', 'He's on the phone' and many others. The music strongly resembles a lot of Cafe del Mar collections only it's better.

The Very Best Of Rainbow covers the whole spectrum of the group between 1975 - 1983 on one disk. It kicks of with 7 tracks fron the Ronnie James Dio period between the 3 albums, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, Rainbow Rising & Long Live Rock 'N' Roll. Ronnie James Dio leaves for Black Sabbath and he his replaced by Graham Bonnet only on one album Down To Earth, 2 tracks are lifted from the album, he is then replaced by Joe Lynn Turner who covers the last 3 Rainbow albums Difficult To Cure, Straight Between The Eyes and Bent Out Of Shape, 7 tracks are drawn between the last three. Sting's greatest hits album for the period 1984-1994 has two new songs amongst the seventeen tracks, and four new versions of tracks already released on earlier albums. For this reason alone, this 76-minute album is one for the Sting fan who already has the previous four studio albums. Besides, it also means you can re-assess the songs out of context. I have reviewed most of the tracks elsewhere under the respective albums, so here I will just comment on the new and remixed songs.

The first new track is "When We Dance", a charming heartfelt love song with a steady beat - `When we dance, angels will run and hide their wings'. If this opens the show, the second new song closes it, a bland American AOR standard called "This Cowboy Song".

A fairly preposterous proposition at the best of times, Bauhaus occasionally came up with a killer art-rock tune - but boy did you have to sit through some pretentious guff to get to it.

Their most famous song remains 'Bela Lugosi's Dead.' Extraordinarily long for a single released in 1979, it still exudes a clammy dread. Pete Murphy's ghoulish, disembodied voice is perfectly suited to the hammy tale of bats and belltowers, vampires and virgins.

'She's In Parties' is a fine single, for once the strangulated guitar enhancing the song not detracting from it. 'Kick In The Eye' is loose, funky, danceable.
