These are the best of the Booker T & MGs recording from 1968 to 1972, after their succesful Atlantic career. Time is tight, Soul limbo and Melting pot were the huge hits with a more funky and outspoken sound. The other instrumentals vary from good to excellent (great versions of Born under a bad sign, Something, Mrs. Robinson) except for the weak vocals on Johnny I love you. This is the one to buy after the Atlantic Best Ofs.

Surely, Elton needs no introduction, as he was hugely popular around the world. During the period covered by this compilation, he only had two number one hits in Britain although he had several in America during the same period. Since then, he has had at least four further UK number one hits. So while many people consider the seventies and eighties to be Elton's golden years, he has demonstrated that he is not finished yet.

Even in 1990, Elton had too many great songs to fit on a double CD, the most notable omissions from this one being Tiny dancer, Island girl and Little Jeannie. What a terrible waste! Quo have had 39 top 20 hits but only 25 are presented here on a 40-track double CD. So, what is the rest? Album tracks and not-so hits. Nothing is in some kind of order so it is a meandering ramble through nearly 40 years of great music. Most of the music is good of course, but minus several points for the awful 'Fun fun fun'. That and others like 'When you walk in the room' should be quietly deleted from the band's history. There is plenty more to feel good about (again, 39 top 20 hits).

So stick to '12 Gold bars' both volumes or the 1997 compilation which although out of date is better (albeit not perfect).

I bought this album on the strength on the one song i heard on the radio " I Cant Make You Love Me" and was suprised to find so many other gems on this album. I really didnt know alot about Bonnie Raitt but i am glad that i do now, she has a really sweet voice and the songs are just beautifull they really seem to hit me where i am at in my life at this present moment.

I would recommend her to anyone.

Whilst a decent Roberta Flack compilation was already in existence, this product is even better. The track listing is extremely similar, but there are enough subtle changes to make this a near-definitive selection of seventeen songs.

All the big hits feature, such as "Killing Me Softly...", "Feel Like Makin' Love", "The First Time Ever....", "The Closer I Get To You" and "Tonight, I Celebrate My Love". There are four tracks taken from the excellent "Roberta Flack featuring Donny Hathaway" album, including the full seven plus minutes of "Don't Make Me Wait Too Long". The "Oasis" album also yields a few selections and the set is brought to a close by the soulful "Trade Winds", which Rod Stewart would cover on "A Night On The Town".

Gaz Coombes and pals had it made. A number one album with their critically acclaimed debut 'I Should Coco' and a top 3 single with the perennial 'Alright'. As an incredibly tight three piece they made a big, big sound and received consistently rave reviews for their live shows.
Over the years Supergrass's star may have diminished somewhat - they are probably more Radio 2 now than Radio 1 - but a recent support slot at Wembley Stadium with the Foo Fighters ably proved that the band can still pull out all the stops when required.
This compilation is a couple of years old now but, with the recent high profile Wembley gigs and their own well recieved shows keeping the group in the public eye, there has never been a better time to revist the singles that kept us smiling through ... Read More:

The only reason that this isn't 5 stars is because of the selection of material rather than a reflection on Robert Palmer's talent.

There are some iconic songs from the 1980's here & for anyone looking for some nostalgia or a feel for the music of that time this is good enough however, if you're a keen fan, you'll probably have most of it already.

You kind of get the feeling that he could & should have been bigger.

Recommended.

This is a superb collection of Police singles, from the early days of Roxanne and Can't Stand Losing You - both of which were considered controversial songs because of their subject matter. The Police very successfully integrated reggae rhythms into their sound, as demonstrated by the aforementioned and by later smashes like Message In A Bottle and Don't Stand So Close To Me. My other favourites include Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, Spirits In The Material World and Every Breath You Take. Not everything here has stood the test of time well - De Do Do Do is one those irritating novelty numbers that I skip when listening to this album.
