Being a rock guitar freak of two decades' standing, it is with embarrassment that I confess to only having heard this record for the first time in my 39th year.

Clearly I went to the wrong school and hung out with the wrong, self conscious types, and stupidly we looked askance at this bogan rock. More fool us.

What a remarkable, single minded, self-assured, exuberant record this is, and what a master stroke for a bunch of scot-inflected teenaged aussies to have settled on such a perceptively observed formula and executed on it so flawlessly (and stuck with it for the thirty years since!). I bought this album as a teenager in the 70's and never felt it was one of zeps greatest albums compared to Physical Graffiti and vol4 so unfortunately it was the last of the remasters that I bought. Having listened to it a couple of times it has quickly become one of my favourates. Its understated beauty really hit me and touched me particularly "tangerine" and the really beautiful "thats the way". Pity the packaging doesnt reflect the curiosity of the original LP cover. Buy it and enjoy!

No seriously why? This album is amazing. This one of AC/DCs best albums. This is more bluesy rock n roll and the blues is very evident in this album. Every song on this album gets better. When you listen to each song you think can this get any better and it does. Best songs are Downpayment Blues, Riff Raff, Rock N Roll Damnation & What's Next The Moon?.


This is a must for every AC/DC fan this should be one of AC/DCs most popular albums ever but sadly it isn't it's certainly one of their best. This is a great start to AC/DC it's one of their. Why it's not more known is beyond me but we'll have to deal with it. Buy this Rock classic if you're a rock n roll fan. LET THERE BE ROCK!!!!!!!!!

Def Leppard outsold many band of the 1980s, and this compliation of their best hits proves why. Hits from the early years of recording, like "Photograph" and "Rock of Ages" are within the compilation, and are complimented with the hits from their biggest selling album, "Hysteria", like "Animal", and "Rocket". Included also are some songs from their albums in the mid 1990s, like "When Love And Hate Collide", which scored highly in the UK charts. Of course, their biggest hit, "Pour Some Sugar on Me" is the first track, so that will definately get any listener going.

The band itself produces absolutely brilliant music, and this album clarifies the imapct Def Leppard had on the music world. I would also call this a masterpiece.

my personal Zep favourite....and then you get the rest of this excellent double album for free, what a bargain!!! I bought the original vinyl on the day of release and even now, over 30 years on, I still pick it out of the rack (now on cd) anytime I require a blast of musical genius.

Its probably fair to say that this is the one album that sits in just about every self respecting rock fans collection, whether they, like me, were knocking about on its original release, or for younger enthusiasts have bought it for its historical value.
This mk2 version of Purple, benefiting from the addition of Ian Gillan's wonderful vocal range (my daughter calls him 'the voice') and Roger Glover's excellent bass and knowledge of musical arrangements, kicked off with an album that not only became the first example of genuine 'hard rock', but unlike some other bands also allowed the depth of their music to shine through.
While not wishing to be critical of the albums contents, how can you knock the likes of 'child in time', 'hard lovin' man', 'speed king' etc or the prowess of the band ... Read More:

This album has something for everyone (even racists, if you thing about "One in A Million"), but generally was partially opportunistic (releasing the EP - Live Like a Suicide) and another four acoustic tracks. How it would look to fans was very much parodied within the album cover which exploits the tabloid nature of their press at the time. The songs are all solid, even the acoustic version of "Your crazy" generally seems to work better than the electric version. 'Patience' is a fantastic song which, at the time really showed people some of the potential range and scope of the band. "Used to Love Her" is very tongue in cheek and reminds me of the feel of "No Expectations" by the Rolling Stones.
