even though it was stated as new release for 2008 Deep Purple's best of is merely the same compilation that was released ten years ago as i came across it in co-op so don't be fooled by the release date as there is nothing new on this dissappointing best of.

This album starts of with such promise - Wildflower, Peace Dog, Lil Devil. Then, you start getting the feeling you have heard the songs before. Essentially the rest of the songs are fairly similar. The cover of Born to be Wild is terrible, you will have had enough of Ian Astbury's hoarse voice after that. 'Bad fun' is also ok. In the old days this would be one of those albums we would record five songs off on a cassette tape and forget about it. Now you would be better to get MP3s of your favorite tunes here and dump the rest of the album. Generally as other reviewers have said, an important genre-change for the cult into a harder-hitting rock operation. The Magician's Birthday

This album has always been underrated. The album peaked at 28 in the uk and 31 in Billboard. It has a fine balance between rock and soft rock. This is due to Ken Hensley who is responsible for most songs. The song Rain is an example of a fine tune. It is also heard on his solo album Proud words on a dusty shelf (1973). Ken is still recording great albums. When i first finished listening the songs i said WOW..this is great. I played the album at least a hundred times.
Spider woman could have been a hit single but in my view but they released sweet Lorraine and that was no sucess. Blind eye is my favorite song. It is a dark song with great lyrics. Overall the album feels "dark" and the tension is pushing it to a great level. The album ends with ... Read More:

There is no doubt that Aerosmith's golden years were in the 70's with gems such as Toys In The Attic, Rocks, Draw The Line and the underrrated Night In The Ruts. Then the decline into drugs began along with the decline in sales.

Whilst Pump's predecessor Permanaent Vacation has some excellent songs, it is far more FM friendly, MTV orientated and commercial.

Pump is back to basics Aerosmith. It's starts Young Lust. Joey Kramer plays those drums as if his life depended on it and Tom Hamilton's bass thunders away, and Perry and Whitford are in brilliant form. Tyler sings with his usual innuendo laden way.

Long Cold Winter

To call this band another Hair Metal band is wrong. They are far more talented than a lot of the rubbish cheesy bands which came out at the same time. I loved this band in the late 80's and early 90's, sadly never saw them live. This has some of the best Hard Rock songs on here every, it is worth buying alone for "Long Cold Winter" which is an amazing track, and who cannot like "Gypsy Road". The singer has a weird voice which does take some getting used to but stick with them, good stuff.

This is my only Deep Purple album and I absolutley love it's such a good album each song is brilliant from start to finish. This is obviously most famouse for the famous rock riff Smoke On The Water how can you not like that song. The best songs are Highway Star, Picture Of Home, Smoke On The Water & Space Truckin'. Deffinetly a Rock album to buy and deffinetlty should be considerd a classic. DEEP PURPLE ROCK!!!!!!

Well Usually i dont like a band or album because of the vocals, but i dont have that problem with this album cause it's just instrumental awesome rock. This album is filled with great solos and songs. No filler just all killer. If you like rock music and you're curious about this just buy it.
