this is by far the best fob album. yes they did sell out on infinity on high but its stiil a great album and its not really selling out is it, its called maturing music wise and growing up.

I first found out about Within Temptation when they joined Road Runner Records and after purchasing The Silent Force i thought id investigate some of the older albums. With the Silent Force it was a little heavier then this album which is ok cause this way it showed that they just kept evolving with the present day music BUT if you want to hear Within Temptation on a mellow-level lower and smoother then their current albums "The Silent Force" + "The Heart Of Everything" then it would be worth checking out how Within Temptation sounded a long time back. My favourite song on here would have to be Mother Earth cause it was soooo smoothing and relaxing for me and to almost here a story about mother nature through a song is a rare thing in music ... I must point out one thing first. This is not really the sort of album that you can dip into at random points and rock along too. To truly enjoy it you must follow the rock opera theme.
Once you do this the album starts to make sense and becomes really a great one at that. There are so many good songs on here that it's up there with 'Who's Next' and 'Quadrophenia'.
Obviously there's everybody's favourite, 'Pinball Wizard', but, there are so many others that the people who gave this 1 star have overlooked. There's 'Amazing Journey' with Moon's incredible drumming, 'Eyesight to the Blind', 'I'm Free' (Brilliant bass by Entwistle), 'The Acid Queen', 'Sally Simpson' and 'We're Not Gonna Take It'.

To fully understand Staus Quo you have to first view the era which created them and most importantly the influences that were around them. The Quo are one of the few groups who made the transition from hippie pop to hard rock, they managed to re mould the sound and image to appeal to the 70s in a way that was unique to them. Those ignorant of musical structure seem to believe that the quo only used 3 chords within the structure of most songs however as a musician myself I can vouch that nearly all songs contain both many chordal and modular changes, if you want three chords try Led Zepplin.

This album is a fitting tribute to one of the greatest rock outfits of all time...enjoy!!

Bat Out of Hell Vol.2: Back Into Hell

MeatLoaf + Jim Steinman = a must have album!

I'm a huge fan of MeatLoaf and have been for nearly 10 years and hearng this album for the first time blew me away. "Bat 2" blasts along for well over an hour with pure rock genius. Jim Steinman's song writing really works well with MeatLoaf's style of singing.

It's a worthy following to "Bat 1" so-much-so that it won a grammy!

If you're a MeatLoaf fan you would be mad not have this in your collection. If you're not...you don't know what you've been missing all this time!!

Ok I've finally gotten around to the DC's 80's output. And guess what? This is really pretty good. Quite a few people call this album Brian Johnson's Powerage - I'd probably give Stiff Upper Lip that honour, but this isn't far off.

Like most good DC albums it's a case of never mind the songs, feel the boogie. It just kicks off and you go with it. There are standout tracks: Rising Power, Flick of the Switch, Guns for Hire, Bedlam in Belgium and Brain Shake are as good as anything from the Bon era. They're just different. There are no obvious FM radio-type tracks such as you might hear on Back in Black - which to my mind is actually a pretty overrated album (sacrilege maybe but that's just my opinion). Crue in great album shocker! Seriously. I quite liked the lesser known and more recent Generation Swine and the eponomous Motley Crue albums, but really they've never hit the heights of their first album. I surely never saw this coming. For me, Shout at the Devil, Girls, Dr Feelgood and Theatre of Pain were an increasingly horrible attempt to ingratiate themselves to the MTV generation. Guns n Roses stepped in and took the credible metal vote while the Crue whored themselves into a panto act. But here there's a return to that scratchy under-produced brilliance, with a bit of craft that they picked up along the way. I don't normally do 5 stars.

Young kicked off his solo career with a very low key affair. The whole pace of the album is dictated to by the opening jaunty instrumental The Emperor of Wyoming which has a definite country feel to it. The key to the success of a first album is a positive answer to the question "will this artist improve?" With Young it was definitely a yes as you could hear the beginnings of the golden career that was to follow.

So this is a decent stab at things, but there was much better to follow. It includes some pseudo classical twiddly bits and, like on so many Young albums, the sum of the whole is slightly fractured, varying from the prettiness of "Here We Are in the Years," which for me is the outstanding track, to the rambling "The Last Trip to Tulsa" which at nine minutes is hugely too ...
