1980's 'The River' can probably be regarded as Bruce Springsteen's first move toward a more commercial sound. After years of sober epics punctuated by the occasional radio-friendly song, he turned out a stack of uptempo three-minute songs. Eight of the first nine tracks on this album are in that style. Far from being routine love songs, however, they feature Springsteen's vivid turn of phrase and odd storylines. On 'Sherry Darling', for instance, the subject threatens to throw his girlfriend's mother out of his car. The impassioned 'Jackson Cage' (well, his songs usually are impassioned) is a highlight, while 'Hungry Heart' is an obvious single, if a relatively unsuccessful one. Fans might balk at the gooey 'I Wanna Marry You', but the plaintive ... Read More:

Even if, like me, you think many including Nirvana released better albums than this. What can be said that hasn't already been muttered by an occassional rock fan or shouted through a teenagers wall?
It is an excellent album, just over played, but it's nowhere near the best rock album, the most memorable grunge album or even the best indie-punk. It's a good pop album with guitars and feux-angst.

In the black album., Metallica take a different approach to metal, replacing long songs with huge musical interludes and different sections with shorter, slower catchier songers. This means there are no stand out musical masterpieces like One, or Fade to Black, but these self imposed constraints don't stop Metallica from rocking. Riffs are heavy, drums are crushing, solos are screaming. There are still clear classics here, like Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters, and the production is arguably better than any albium before. The sound however, loses its rawness which you find on Kill 'em All and Ride the Lightning, which is replaced by a commercial sheen. If you are just starting to get into Metallica, this is the album I recommend. Its much easier to get into ... Read More:

like a phoenix that rises from the ashes of that of the Darkness comes a new band the Stone Gods of whom their debut album is british as yorkshire pudding its very rarely the type of album that anybody or (I) in general that requires the regular need of skipping a track as there is enough quality riffs and singalongs to ensure that silver spoons and broken bones can be played from start to finish its the sort of album the wildhearts wished they had made!

I have been a Priest fan for 30 years now but there is nothing here to excite. Great musicianship (hence the 2 stars) but this is so one paced and boring. Can't say anymore. Sorry.
Release Date June 13, 2005
I love this album! At first I thought the second cd was boring, but after having heard it a few more times I liked it more and more, and now I think I like the quiet one even better than the loud one. I love the melodies and the calm sound, it`s great!

I spent my youth in the 70's listening to Abba and Boney M. Now, in my 40's, I buy this excellent CD and realise what I missed. For others like me I recommend this album, 'Hammer of the Gods' by Stephen Davis (which tells their unbelievable story entertainingly), and videos from their gigs in the 70's from youtube.

I first heard Linkin Park's `Crawling' on a Saturday morning music show- I had never heard anything like It. I'd never really been into music before, but the angst ridden, thundering chorus of this song really spoke to me. On the strength of the single alone I bought the album and - to my delight - loved it!
Even though the album and band where bourn for an era where short-lived Nu-metal ruled the world, after which many bands failed to move on from the sound which popularized them and subsequently where soon defunct, linkin park have survived and have since built on the solid foundation of Hybrid Theory, pursuing various sounds and becoming one of the only successful bands to meld together rap and metal.
I'd be lying if I said I liked any of there more recent ... Read More:

I found this CD in a small record shop in France for 5 euros (about £3), so I did what any sane person would do and bought it...and for the money I paid, it has to be one of the biggest bargains I've ever found! This CD includes some absolutely awesome songs and while it may not be to everyone's taste, it's still a really good CD
