I bought this album on the strength of the first track Into Oblivion but was pleasantly surprised by how good the rest of it is. The Great Wide Open is another stand out track. Well worth buying.

Having purchased the first CD in the series (now extended to three), I decided to try the second volume - and I have not been disappointed!
The standard has been maintained with some great artists and songs, all with strong guitar influences. Many were already well-known such as Bread's Guitar Man, The Cars' My Best Friends Girl and Cream's White Room but the more popular numbers have been interspersed with some arguably lesser known tracks such as Stony Road (Chris Rea), Don't Believe A Word (Gary Moore) and the impressive Whirlpools End from Paul Weller. I haven't heard Mott's All The Young Dudes for years and still sounds as good today as it did away back then! Such diversity has prevented this particular ... Read More:

The track "Winter's Tale" is a masterpiece - it should be on every Christmas compilation album, and it should be played more often on the radio instead of churning out the Wizzard/Slade/Cliff Richard stuff. If ever a song summed up how beautiful that time of year can be, it's this one - worth buying the album for this track alone, but the others are excellent too. Freddie Mercury was a one-off, a true star and a true character.

"There's a future for you in the fire escape trade", sings Peter Gabriel in the most well-known track off this album, `I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)'. It's the second track, and is preceded by `Dancing with the Moonlight Knight'. This opening track epitomises the album as a whole: inventive ideas, fine musicianship, but does Gabriel have to shout?
Genesis at this time (1973) were renowned for their extended instrumentals, and there are plenty on this album, especially in the nine-and-a-half minute `Firth of Fifth'; the eleven-minute `Cinema Show' (is that a mellotron I hear?); and the twelve-minute `Battle of Epping Forest'. This final piece is an item of theatrical whimsy: "Here come the cavalry". There is one track, the aptly-titled `After ... Read More:

After Tarja's departure, this is a new Era for Nightwish.
Although a very different sound to Tarja's voice, new vocalist Annette Olsen does a very good job.
Less Operatic and not trying to impersonate Tarja at all is a good thing. (Don't get me wrong, I loved Tarja!)
Tuomas finally sounds like he's got where he wants to be musically, even if that's ment he's had to part ways with Tarja to get there. I think she was holding him back.
My only fear is that now Nightwish will blend into the 'Female Metal' scene too much, they use to stand out.
They had something different.
Loads of great tracks. Those that stand out are The Poet and the Pendulum, Cadence of Her Last Breath, Master Passion Greed, Sahara and 7 Days To The ... Read More:

I thought "Saturate" was really good due to its raw quality and progressive nature with some good structure and catchy songs. I didn't think it had any "hits" on it but the songs made a lasting impression. "We Are Not Alone" was different because it was instantly accessable, had alot of catchy tunes, many of which could have easily been singles and it was just generally a fun album to listen to. "Phobia" didn't captivate me on first listen and whenever I go back to it, I still think the songs are pretty "meh" by BB standards. The two singles Diary of Jane and Breath were pretty good, the best songs on the album probably, and past that, the album doesn't have much depth to it. There are some heavier parts, but I don't think that suits the BB style. I prefer the sound they created on "We ... Read More:

This has got to be one of THE all-time greatest live albums...from start to finish it doesn't let up in its barrage of awesome songs and Bruce Dickinson playing the crowd like never before...add to it that immortal line, and you've got yourself Maiden at their very best, which is saying something! (As an aside, my title comes from the fact that Bruce is a registered pilot...how cool would it be to hear that if you were flying!)

Crue in great album shocker! Seriously. I quite liked the lesser known and more recent Generation Swine and the eponomous Motley Crue albums, but really they've never hit the heights of their first album. I surely never saw this coming. For me, Shout at the Devil, Girls, Dr Feelgood and Theatre of Pain were an increasingly horrible attempt to ingratiate themselves to the MTV generation. Guns n Roses stepped in and took the credible metal vote while the Crue whored themselves into a panto act. But here there's a return to that scratchy under-produced brilliance, with a bit of craft that they picked up along the way. I don't normally do 5 stars.

Have this dvd since some time and now the blu-ray. As to the dvd the DTS-HD track on the blu-ray is awesome. There is definite a better definition on Chris his bass-lines and the sub has also extra work to do.Image is crisp-clean. The track-list is almost perfect meaning I would certainly have skipped roundabout and don't kill the whale and have starship trooper and time and a word or tried for once Universal garden.
Anyway, this is certainly the best in terms of sound and image thanks to the blu-ray format. It seems also to me that Jon was at that time not in perfect condition or rather maybe a little sick.I make that up by his eyes. At least he still has the guts to try Heart of the sunrise which is vocaly very difficult, and it shows when Jon at the end is clearly satisfied he'd done it ... Read More:
