I grew up on this album and it is the place where I heard Tom Petty first. This album is light and fun and will have you hooked from the word go. Jeff Lynne's production and co-writing abilities compliment Tom's style perfectly and the album they crafted has become a classic. This has such wonderful tracks as 'Free fallin', I won't back Down', 'Runnin' Down A Dream' and many more. In fact I'd go so far as to say that there isn't a dud track on this album. The slowest track on the CD is 'Face in The crowd' and for sheer melancholy and feeling it can't be beaten. While I agree that there may be more comprehensive Clash sets available (my personal favourite being 'The Story Of The Clash Volume 1') this release does exactly what it says on the tin. All the singles, though not in chronological order - unlike the previous 1991 version, combined with far improved artwork. And it is this that sold me on this CD.
The colourful booklet has been designed with care and features notes from the great and good on each track. Everybody from Pete Townsend to Danny Boyle and many inbetween, get to comment on their favourites and the impact these tracks had on them. I have just listened to this album on the headphones in Virgin - and i was very excited by it.

I dont know much of springsteens work and this 'E- Street band' everyone keeps referring to - so maybe as one clever reviwer pointed out - i am the type of person approahcing it with out any preconceptions.

well i love alt rock music - from Dino jr to pixies to sugar to sloan - and am bored by all the flat sounding supposed 'indie' music by bands called "the ......'s" - so hearing this energetic riff laden fusion of pure rock and roll love and soaring guitars is a breath of fresh air!

I was a very young man when I fisrt bought my copy of "Who's Next", and it is an album that has stayed with me for over 30 years, one that I come back to time after time. Why is that? Well, it's a very simple question to answer, this is the epitome of a seminal album. It is The Who at their absolute peak.

I have a very wide ranging musical taste, taking into scope blues / rock / pop / jazz / big-band swing / electronica / indie and Lord knows what, and I would be very hard pushed to nail down a favourite album, but this would be well foward in my thinking. Even more so, I would be hard pushed to nail a favourite song, but "Baba O'Riley" is certainly up there, and it is this opening tune that sets the tone for the album.

Opeth's latest offering, "Watershed" was really something of a surprise, and comes as proof that they will never let us get comfortable and settle into a predictable rut as so many talented bands do. Instead, Opeth continue to challenge their listeners with something really quite different, not only from "Ghost Reveries" but also from all their previous albums. Of course it is still unmistakably Opeth, with Akerfeldt's trademark vocals and their unique combination of blasting death metal ferocity with mellow acoustic brilliance and awesome prog solos. I think this is brilliant - you really can see the nine inch nails in it. It is all intrumentals, so unfortunately no vocals or anthems here, but still not to be missed. This is music that is easy to get lost in, so amazing for relaxing, but it does have really nice melodies and tunes across the tracks.

Overall, as slightly peculiar offering, but not one too be missed once you have listened to most of their other albums and liked them. If you're in that position, this is unmissable for 36 tracks of raw trent reznor, for a very low price.

Like Fleetwood Mac's 'Rumours', 'Born In The USA' became the artist's biggest album because it appealed to a much wider audience than earlier material did. It was commercial. So what? There's nothing wrong with appealing to more people by making your music more accessible. Bruce Springsteen's previous album 'Nebraska' may possess greater snob value because, wow, it's dark and stripped down, but there is no disguising that much of it is also dull. As Tommy James commented when criticised for creating 'Mony Mony' at the height of the revolutionary, anti-war sentiments of 1968, why can't you make people want to dance?

The most obvious slice of glossy pop is, of course, 'Dancing In The Dark' and it soon palls, but nothing else is as disposable, and throughout Springsteen ... Read More:

There Is Nothing Left to Lose

This album is really good. Come on - as if you didn't already know that! With the Foo Fighters there is a certain level of quality that you expect- and they always deliver.
The BEST songs on the album are 'Breakout'(I Love the screaming!), 'Learn To Fly'(A pop song, but still good), 'Live-Skin'(A good song for various reasons). There are other songs that are good as well. Such as 'Gimme Stitches', 'M.I.A, ect. but the first three songs I mentioned are really good and you will remember them for years to come.
The album only has a few bad songs which suffer from being very boring('Generator').
The album also has some acousic(y) songs to offer such as 'Next Year' and 'Ain't It the Life'. So basically, if you like the Foo Fighters - buy this album!!
