What strikes me is how fresh this album still sounds after over 25 years. Fast, furious and different, I was only 7 when this came out, so can only imagine just how much this must've rocked the Bay Area scene in San Francisco. It does wear it's influences on it's sleeve, but Metallica were still teenagers when they recorded it (imagine any band today managing the same feat?) and you cannot help but be swept away by the enthusiasm behind the record. It pumps out of every one of James Hetfield's riffs, Kirk's solos (yes Megadeth fans, Kirk's, Dave may still be pissed off and claim Hammet stole all his solos, but c'mon, how much can you memorise without sounding imitation - Kirk shows true original talent) and Lars' drums (although he does sound a bitty ... Led Zeppelin II is the definitive Led Zeppelin album for anyone who discovers this band today, the Untitled Fourth Album owes a lot to what was created on this record. Led Zeppelin II is the bluesy side to Zeppelin, a fitting tribute to their delta blues roots - which continued in IV. This album begs to be listened to.
Release Date May 20, 2002
An all time classic album, often imitated, but never approached let alone surpassed. Zack's vocals are incredibly emotional, and the sheer tightness and funking musicality of the band is staggering (and that comes from a guy whos played in bands for 15 years himself.)
I loved this album to death fifteen years ago. Yet, when im teaching kids today and i put it on for them, it seems just as powerful for them as it was for me back then. Stunning.

Having achieved moderate levels of success with their self-titled debut and Rated R, Queens Of The Stoneage finally hit the big leagues with their third album, Songs For The Deaf. The last album featuring the revolving door policy of old, the QOTSA group on this album features Josh Homme, Nick Oliveri, ex-Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan and most notably, with the Foo Fighters in disarray, Dave Grohl making a welcome return to drums.
Songs For The Deaf finds Homme streamlining the sexy yet doom-laden groove of the previous two albums into something almost perfect. Mixed as a shift between radio stations from song to song, Homme covers more styles here than ever before. Big hit 'No One Knows' is a straight-out pop song; 'Hangin' Tree' is an unsettling, ... This album sees the guys continuing to do what they do best - make power laden records with guitars played at break neck speeds. The songs are rousing and show power metal at it's most brutal. My favourite songs are Heroes of our Time and Heartbreak Armageddon - both dancefloor fillers and I just know they're gonna be killer live! Miss this album at your own peril.

It's one of those things that, when you first think about it, it really doesn't and shouldn't work.
Ever.
But after coming across this album's version of "Nothing Else Matters" on Kerrang! TV, I was shocked and also intrigued by what else the album may have in store.
Now, most people know Metallica as one of the most influencial and outstanding metal bands of all-time, so when fans heard that they would be combining themselves with the San Francisco Symphony, as you can imagine, assumptions were made before they music was even heard.
This is one of the most beautifully constructed albums that I have ever heard, and the fact that it is a live recording just adds to the charm of it all. It holds all the amazing work and most popular songs of the band, but ... Read More:

Izzy Stradlin was the main songwriting force behind Guns n Roses, particularly in the Appetite days, but never seems to get noticed. Even if you know GN'R well you may not know that Izzy has 9 solo albums available (including Ju Ju Hounds). Five are available on amazon and the other four are available to download. They are in more of a rock n roll style than the heavy metal of GN'R but there are some great songs to be found and the usual excellent guitar work is always present. Do yourself a favour and check them out.

Along with Kind of Blue (Miles Davis), Follow the Reaper (Children of Bodom), and Clapton's CD with the Bluesbreakers, this is the best album ever. You should already own this. Seriously. The songs are all completely different, not a single filler track!
