This album is worth 4 stars easily for the standout tracks, which raised Anthrax above many of the thrash bands of the day. The album came out when people were buzzing about 'Thrash' and Metallica and Anthrax graced the cover of Kerrang. There were a few big bands, some harder ones, and some serious rubbish, but Anthrax were different enough to stand out.
Joey Belladonna's vox were one of the things that did this, his style being more rock based and more flexible than many bands of the time(Metallica, Megadeth, Kreator, Exodus, Suicidal Tendencies to name just a few), but the band still sounded harder than than the hair-bands. The playing is as tight as a Gnat's chuff, with some fantastic metal\punk drumming from Charlie Benante ... Read More:

Like their Austrian peers, Kruder & Dorfmeister, Thievery Corporation know how to mix and, like K&D, their "DJ Kicks" album is a class act in both its production and its selection of tracks. More down-tempo than K&D's offering but equally interesting in its sequencing, it scans a broader palette of styles from bossa-nova, through Indian sitars to deep Jamaican dub. Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen?... well, not here, because in these guys' hands each track is integrated seamlessly into an hour long musical journey that's held together by lock-tight beats and overlays. Genuinely interesting and perfectly crafted it's another example of just how good "laid-back" club music can be in the hands of people who know what's out there and how it ... Read More:

I will be the first to admit I am a new LP fan. After acquiring an iPod and pumping it full of my favourite music (Mostly rock) I set about looking for new sounds and came across Linkin Park. After purchasing Hybrid Theory I was hooked. The rawness, the lyrics, the rhythm... man it's all good! Meteora was just as excellent purchase and when I found out about this CD/DVD I couldn't resist. I have a number of music DVDs and DVD-Audio compilations and this ranks at the top with the best of them. Playing it on a dedicated surround sound system with the volume up is the best way to experience it. It's energetic, loud and packed full of their best music, and the sound quality is on a par with a studio recording. The opening song, "Don't stay" just sends goose ... Read More:

Now while many say that Rages best record was the unstoppably furious debut, this is their true masterpiece. Its the sound of a more intelligent and focused band embracing raw experimental sounds. Now while the album is known for its stomping hits (Testify, Guerilla Radio and Sleep now in the fire) its actually on many of the hidden gems on this album that rage hits on to something. For example the exellent album tracks Born of a Broken Man, where rage fuse the time signatures of Led Zeppelin and the *Loud-Quiet* dynamics of many grunge and prog bands, coupled with Zachs poetry and Tom Morellos achingly sad riff produce one of the bands greatest songs. Theres also more quality stomping on Hip-Hoppers Calm Like a Bomb with more Space Ship noises from Tom Morello and ... Read More:

This is the sound of the 21st century. This is the sound of globalisation (and proof that that needn't necessarily be a dirty word!) This is the sound you'll want to hear again and again and again. If you like your music safe and formulaic, steer clear of this. But if you want to hear something fresh, then this may be just what you're looking for...

Being new to the scene a lot were expected of cartoon band Gorillaz and they delivered in a way which was unbelievable with this fantastic debut album.
They came into the market having not a lot of success but were able to deliver in the form of their first single `Clint Eastwood' which reached number 4 in the UK charts but probably deserved higher with its cool style and interesting choice of lyrics.
The songs are very different from your average rock band. Because their mode of address is very unusual it struck a cord with a wide range of people. The video for Clint Eastwood showed the band dancing and the drummer being turned into a monster. The funny elements and amazing graphics were great but the whole music concepts are enough to win ... I've had this album a long, long time and even after buying all their others, this one is still the original and best. From the outstanding 'Fun Lovin' Criminal' (best song ever, no contest) to the lovely cover version of 'We Have All the Time in the World' and everything in between, this is truly a great album. The guys couldn't get any funkier if they tried, and could make a Celine Dion cover sound like the coolest thing ever. If you don't have this album already, buy it - the best introduction to the best band in the world. Spread the word, and then go see them live!
