It was hard to review this album having listened to everything else that Gza has ever done. First things first, the album is not bad and neither is it good. Like me, if you have heard a lot of Gza's stuff, you will notice that this album is almost like a Frankenstein because it has so many bits and pieces borrowed from his previous stuff. The tracks are first of all not that original or creative at all as we know Gza can do, we have nothing like Fame, Animal planet, knock knock or even Breaker Breaker and secondly, the album has one too many some skip-a-ble tracks. Also, his lyricism isn't as sharp and the beats as I said are not that interesting either.
Critics were saying this is a good album but maybe I am just ... Read More:

lil wayne rides every beat on this album to the foolest with his smooth flow thats untouchable! Everytract has something to it ! My pesonal favourite is "Who Wanna" he rips this track killing every baseline with his ryhming slang that just doesn't stop!

This is a hip-hop masterpeice by Talib Kweli. He is a master of his craft and has produced a slick and intelligent album. My personal favourite tracks are Love Language & Good Mourning but almost every track is a joy to listen to.
If you enjoy genuine hip-hop, get this album. If you are new to hip-hop, get this album. If you enjoy music in all its beautiful forms, get this album.

Before I dive into how much i love this album I think I need to make it clear that I am a 25 year old middle class white guy who is not really into the whole R&B / Rap scene but there are some R&B / Rap artists out there who I do like and Missy Elliott is by far my favourite. I like to think that she is a "ghetto" version of Madonna who is constantly changing her image and always seems to be one step ahead of the game and always comes up with something original and unique which captures the music and the moment. She writes some amazing lyrics which seem to effortlessly flow with the beats and it always comes together to produce a great sounding record. This album has 17 of her best tracks to date including her earlier stuff such as Hit Em Wit Da Hee ... Read More:

really cool, wittily written lyrics, heavily influenced by epmd. same sense of fun and distinct lack of macho crap so prevalent in hip hop today. like a step back to guys rapping about actual real everyday stuff like playing streetfighter with your mates instead of posing in niteclubs. its lighthearted but the sound is solid n' kicks throughout. restored my faith in hip hop cos it really had started to suck recently.

I can see where 'ajking22' is coming from but I'm not surprised with the disappointment after listening to 'real' classical pianists like Satie. In this respect Craig Armstrong is severely lacking but the music on this album needs to be taken in context. Being a writer of scores and a contributing artist with others like Massive Attack it should be noted that his music is usually part of a bigger picture and as such will tend to be a bit minimalistic. Heatmiser and Weather Storm are prime examples where the basslines, synths and strings have been stripped away to leave two beautifuly simplistic pieces of music.
Personally I love the minimalism and that the album consists of many short and often moody soundscapes. Great after a hard day ... Read More:

It might seem that practically every rap album released in the early 90s is awarded a '5 star' rating. Which makes you wonder how credible that rating really is, nonetheless we have the second offering from Ice Cube, before his music started to go downhill and his acting career became priority.
Highly anticipated at the time of its release in Autumn 1991, this album features a lot of controversial material, provoking accusations of racism in songs like 'Black Korea' and 'Horny Lil' Devil'. Also recorded at a time of acrimony between Cube and the remaining members of N.W.A. 'No Vaseline' is Ice Cube's response to comments made in the N.W.A. song '100 Miles and Runnin'.
This controversy does little to tarnish the quality of the album. ... Read More:

this is a great album no matter what others say about it. i am so very tired of gangster rap as it is very fictions and hyped up to promote materialism among young people among other things. up so instead i listen to fort minor. very good beats and lyrics. lyrics which i can listen to which has messages and talks about real life
i can listen to fort minor over and over again without it getting old.

Make no mistake. If you like Portishead, you HAVE to get this DVD. Out of maybe 30 music DVDs I own, this stands in my Top5 for sure. Excellent video/audio quality, excellent performance, Beth's singing is greater than ever, the orchestra is a plus, and all these mini movies/videoclips at the extras are also great. The playlist is heavily focused in the "Portishead" album (which is a plus for me).
If you like Portishead, get this Dvd and then you will love them! That's what happened to me anyway..
