I'm not going to claim I was a massive Dilla fan before he died. I knew that he had connections with A Tribe Called Quest and Common, but that's about it -- and given the nature of music fans to name any deceased artist as a "tortured genius", albums like this should be approached with a clear mind. With Donuts though, the hype is well deserved.
What may initially sound jarring gains cohesiveness with further listens, creating a stream-of-consciousness style that continues through all 31 tracks. Each individual Donut offers something different as Dilla effortlessly twists old soul samples, combining them with some of the best beats in hip hop. Would this album have garnered so much attention had he not passed away? Probably not, ... Read More:

Every so often, an album of truly funky genius pops up and makes you want to write a movie just to set scenes to the songs. Unfortunately for anyone just arriving at the Propellerheads' seminal work, you've largely been beaten to it. Rarely a year goes by when there's no film released with at least a few bars from this album hidden away on it.
Where, to give just one example, would The Matrix have been without Spybreak to accompany the excellent `Government Lobby' scene?
This album shines from the opening bars of Take California, right through to the Jungle Brothers' remix of the same track (though cleverly renamed `You Want It Back') over an hour later. There are some lull's, but never a moment when you are not being taken ... Read More:

This album is amazing. Reality TV shows usually produce a one-hit wonder, with media and publicity hype lasting a month, if even. But Lemar has proved what we all knew during the Fame Academy competition-he has staying power. Long Live Lemar. I recently attended a wedding and the bride and groom chose his cover of 'Let's Stay Together' as their lead-off dance. excellent choice. the atmosphere was electric, with everyone singing and clapping and groovin' .go Lemar

This album is class, better than Awfully Deep, total Manuva all the way. Heavy, experimental, dub laden itl freak you right out.

I originally ignored this album due to my slight prejudice against mainstream acts such as the streets. Since being subjected to it in my mate's car i have come around to recognise Kano one of the better UK rappers out there. His flow and the number of times he switches it up is sick. The beats are good too. He is easily up there with the UK's finest Jehst, Life, Cy Philly, Klashnekoff, Kyza, Chester P, Scor-zay-zee, Cappo et al. And thats one of the good things about him, he appeals to fans of seriously good rappers such as those i have just mentioned, and also talentless wastemen like lethal bizzle (a complete joke!). Hopefully he can convert a few grime fans to real hip hop. Before anyone tries to defend lethal drivel plz check out some tracks from the ... Read More:

If Enimem came from Wales, he might sound like this. You Knows It.
This could've been brilliant. It could've been ok. Instead it's just....
Imagine a bunch of twenty somethings, raised on the A-team, obsessed with The Bill and spliff and Primark, pretending to be chavs, dolled up in faux-chic Working Class burberry, and taking the piss. That's the glc, and youknowsit.
But who is the joke on? You? Me? Them? Everybody?
I have no idea. What I do know is that "Greatest Hits" isn't that Great, and doesn't have that many hits on it ; consisting of a selection of re-recordings of old songs taken from their first 6, lowkey word-of-mouth albums. The music is dull, anodyne, tired. The lyrics? With a handful of ... Read More:

After the brilliance of his second `Run Come Save Me` Roots Manuva needed to do something exceptional or different, and he has done neither. This is not awfully anything to be honest, apart from uninspiring. There are some interesting reggae songs styles here (not dub), but even though Collossal Insight is a particularly good song, this is rather flat. Stick to the first two.

This was the first RKelly album I brought and I love it! The music on disc 1 is in a very feel good style, that makes you happy, and the album also includes the AMAZING song Happy People! Disc 2 however, is very slow and gospel, and if you like such music as Ignition or Happy People, this might not appeal to you as much. Overall a fabulous album. R Kelly has done it again!

Wow, what can I say? I thought they could never improve on NOlA (their first), but I was mistaken! For NOlA was such a great peice of musicianship. But this far surpasses NOLA, it seems like a much more mature album than NOLA, with songs like Beautifully depressed and Ghosts along the mississippi, this album just stays strong for all 15 of it's amazing tracks. Every track has a unique, powerful riff which is surpassed by the following track. in other words, this album just gets better as it goes along. Perhaps the peak of this album is not the last track as you might expect, after what i just said, but no, it peaks around 3/4 of the way through with the song 'New Orleans is a dying Whore', despite the odd name, I find that this song is the most meaningful of all the tracks ...
