Basement Jaxx isn't an album which sits naturally in my CD collection but after seeing them support Robbie last summer, thinking I'd have to grin and bear their set, I was very pleasantly surprised and found myself participating in a non-alcohol induced 'bounce'! Equally I was surprised that I knew virtually all their tracks, just didn't ever know who sung them. Bought the album straight after and wasn't disappointed - my big favourites are Hush Boy, Take me back to your house, On the Train and Everybody. Also love the Crazy Itch intro! The rest of the album is at an ok-listenable level but I don't skip past any tracks which is always a good sign!

If you see anything published by the previous reviwer who dismisses this becuase he doesn't like it; don't bother reading it. You can't produce the history of something only from the bits of it you like. That's like missing out on the big bang when writing about the historty of the universe.

This early Chicago house was the start of a collosal movement that went worldwide and is still around twenty years later (at time of writing).

Sure it sounds dated now, but in the clubs in the late eighties (not early nineties that scarygeorge says) this was tremendously ground breaking and we danced our shoes off to this stuff. Gypsy punk and Balkan pop has gotten new attention in the past few years, with the emergence of bands like Gogol Bordello, Balkan Beat Box and Beirut. Some of the best of this little folk-rock genre are included in "Gypsy Beats and Balkan Bangers," which includes a few bands you might have heard of, and some you certainly haven't.

On the more traditional side of things, we have the horn-led dance tunes of Shantel's "Bucovina," both the original and the souped up, synth-edged "Felix B Booty Mix," and the rousing, trumpety "Hora Andalusia." Balkan Beat Box produces one of the best songs in the languorous shimmy of "Bulgarian Chicks," but "Dostlar Bizim Halaya (Come to Dance)" is too loose and uncertain to go anywhere.

Once again the Masters are At Work! These are probably the most talented producers since Gamble and Huff. This album showcases all of the musical elements that make for a phat vibe. And then there are the artists: Jocelyn Brown, Roy Ayers, Geroge Benson, India, Jazzy Jeff on the wheels of steel. This is better than a Broadway Musical! Too bad MTV didn't pick up on this album. Get your copy today!

I came to "La suite" after hearing the latest 2 Costes releases and can only say Pompougnac has mastered his trade since the release of this double album. 'Dance' music notoriously dates very quickly and this is a prime example. Despite a few stand out tracks of true brilliance the Costes brand, on compilation at least, flatters to deceive and there are a fair few tracks which don't really deserve their place here. Unless you feel the need to complete a collection of Pompougnac releases I would save your money here if I were you and buy the excellent Etage 3..

When I first heard it, I didn't like it that much because I was regreting the "old" pet shop boys sound but today I realise that this new sound was exactly what they needed to do : a fresh new style, almost like a reborn. So many dance tunes and potential singles in this album, wasted because, for the first time in almost 6 years, this album is again filled with gorgeous and unforgettable songs (A different point of view, One in a million, One and one make five) : so much energy after almost 10 years of existence, I still wonder what's their secret. The best song of the album : The theatre, is not an obvious hit like the other tracks I mentioned but its sound is truly unique.
