A brilliant Cd with artists covering past Number 1's and some better than the originals. A brilliant mix of songs only let down by 3 pretty average songs. Highlights are Stereophonics cover of Nothing Compares To You, and Starsailors, All Or Nothing. Only average songs are the cover of Back For Good and Daruis's cover of Pretty Flamingo which seems somewhat out of place.

This CD also contains a piece of pure genius, Jimmy Eat World's cover of the 1996 Number 1 Firestarter by Prodigy (who also feature on here), its a complete contrast to the original and in my opinion much better, transformed into a mellow Indie track it works brilliant.

A must CD for serious Indie fans and anyone who likes good cover songs, which are all ... Read More:

This eagerly awaited release is a mixed bag, to be fair. Some tracks could've easily come out of Strange Cargo (mainly the vocal ones tracks 5-7 & 10) whilst some are extremely ambient and are more in line with Electric Chamber/Pieces in A Modern Style (not the remixed versions!). No crunchy beats dominate, in fact the first 4 tracks drift by pleasantly but unexcitedly. The focus on programming, occasionally interspersed with slightly tired Orbit sounds (the ones he always uses) is sometimes a little bland - but amiable enough.

Reviewers are split re track 5, Spiral, with Sugarbabes (and Keenan) vocals. In fairness it's not a bad track atall, but oddly positioned on the album. As Laurie Mayer's vocal contributions are quite apparent on the following ... Read More:

First heard this as a promo in the record store where I used to blow all my teenage pocket money, buying up vinyl records.
The above comment goes some way to explaining why I've woken out of my current musical stupor to actually write a review. Mix CD compilations are a dime a dozen these days. They often provide a useful tool for DJ producers to either highlight what's coming next or to finally unfold the secrets on a bunch of white label promos and studio edits that only they have had access to for the past months.
Fabric 43 by Metro Area does none of that.

Ministry of Sound has come along way since its origins in the early 90's. In fact, it literally has - their albums seem so far away from the famous club that it no longer resembles any relevance or any connection to the place that was once 'the' place to go to. Luckily, I own The Annual Vol.1 to remind of 'back in the day'...
If it's not special enough to just own this piece of history, then its lovely dark royal blue leather book-case will surely make you feel special. I would describe it as 'innocent' - the label MoS wasn't even recognised worldwide by the time this album was released. UK dancepop duo Moloko are in fine form in "Things to Make And Do," their third blend of acid jazz and trippy electronica. The talented Roisin Murphy and Mark Brydon create a charmingly erratic dance album that sounds like nothing else, yet never fails to draw you in.

It opens with a peculiar piano solo, before kicking into the sexy sax-keyboard of "Pure Pleasure Seeker," and the ominously trippy "Absent Minded Friends." A darker note enters with songs like "Being Is Bewildering," which is technically a more "normal" song, a slow and rather melancholy song based on acoustic guitar and organ. Same with the lower-key pop song "The Time is Now."

A Night at the Playboy Mansion

The real deal fruity French cheese feel, it gets no smoother than this. Considerably more old skool and disco'fied then Dimitri's MixMag Live effort from a few years back. Disco, funk, soul and Latino influences abound and as a package it works very well. Not the sort of compilation that's gonna change any drum & bass fan's clichéd opinions about house music, but if you enjoy the fruity end of house (or European 'real' house) then this is the one for you. A high quality compilation, but as I say, fruity as all hell.
