Following the demise of Throbbing Gristle, two of its members Genesis P-Orridge and Pete'Sleazy'Christopherson were associated with the first phase of Psychic TV (a band who are about to release a new album under the PTV3 moniker). The roots of PTV are actually found in Alternative TV's 'Industrial Sessions', an album that featured P-Orridge and was recorded at TG's Death Factory studio alongside material by 23 Skidoo and Whitehouse. ATV's Alex Ferguson and TG's Gen-P were the principal members, their collaboration 'Just Drifting' showing that the two had chemistry and there was more to Gen-P than stuff like 'Hamburger Lady' & 'Maggot Death.' Their first album 'Force the Hand of Chance' (WEA, 1982) is a definite masterpiece, gorgeous songs ... Read More:

Most of the tracks on this album were actually produced by A Guy Called Gerald according to the guy himself and not 808 state.
Taken from A Guy Called Gerald Interview:
Interviwer: Rephlex recently released Prebuild, an album that compiles some early 808 State tracks. Would you have liked to be involved in the project?
AGCG: I was involved in the project. If you read the small print you will find 70% of the music on the album is mine prior to forming 808 State.
I:What was your reaction when you first heard that Graham Massey was putting this together?
AGCG: Brilliant. It's interesting the way things work. A vast percentage of the tracks were originally from a demo tape I made in ... Read More:

There are few tracks on this album which really capture your Kandimagination. Namely Gav McCalls tune is a beauty, as is the Hot 22 material. Other than that, a fringe effort to what used to be a colossal label.
Ministry Of Sound has caused a thick layer of dust to form on those glittery balls we all used to love.

From 1999 - 2001 was a real special time for trance music and because it was the turn of the millenium. Never will music be produced to such quality again. Euphoric trance was at its peak at this time before ministry of sound and various other record labels managed to get old of the genre and turn it cheesy. Yes the millenium was a very special time not just because it was just that "the millenium" but for all of those of us that were into clubbing at that time the music was simply mindblowing and euphorically amazing!. Never will a genre produce as many quality tunes that meant so much to so many people at one time ever be achieved again.. Everyone who was clubbing at that time will have a special tune that holds so many great memories from that era whilst ... Read More:

Messing with old tracks to bring them up to date for the next generation can sometimes go a bit off the wall but these gentle dancey new mixes of some of Nina Simones's best work really do bring her unique voice up to todays standards without that feeling of that it really shouldn't have been tried in the first place.
If you like Nina Simone or want an introduction to her bucketloads of back material then this is the perfect introduction for a first time listener to go and explore the actual original songs and albums from.
Uplifting and full of true soul. These mixes work so well as a group. The new mixes really compliment Ninas voice to the ears of a new generation and it works so well. If you just want to feel summery and nice then this is the ... Read More:

Sorry, but I've got to stick up for this album, it's an absolutely timeless classic....
I'm frankly surprised to see words like 'nothing special' used to describe this album... It set a benchmark upon release and is a classic example of Nineties cerebral techno. There are plenty of deep rhythms and vibes to get into on this album, and it contains the organic blueprint of future FSOL releases to come...
Rather than lightweight, this album is accessible, up tempo and very listener friendly. You don't need to sit in a room and think seriously about the concepts at work to enjoy it (as with some FSOL albums). It's far more immediate than that whilst retaining a good degree of intelligence...
This record's like a favourite pair ... Read More:

This is my first purchase of Mark Farina, having recently (and rather by accident) heard a cd called Mushroom Jazz mixed by him. This is House Music the way I remember it. Not too many tweaks and blips and getting lost in all the electronica. This is equally suitable for dancing your head off, or just chilling by yourself. Soothing and invigorating at the same time, I cannot recommend it enough. Last few tracks the pace gets a bit wild and that explains the 4 stars. Otherwise a wholesome experience.
