Abba in the groove - same formula, similar songs but everything still sounds as fresh as ever and the hits and memorable songs keep rolling off the production line without anything sounding hackneyed.
Yes it's all as fresh as ever and choc full of outstanding songs like "Super Trouper" with the immortal lines "I was sad and tired of everything, when I called you last night from Glasgow" and the brilliant break-up song "The Winner Takes it All." Elsewhere "Our Last Summer" and "Happy New Year" are evidence of spot on songwriting.
There is an inherent sadness about this album with strong lyrics a million miles away from those of five years previous. Abba had come of age. This is grown up pop/rock for middle aged angst ... Read More:

In March of this year Lou Reed inducted Leonard Cohen in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the words, "We're so lucky to be alive at the same time Leonard Cohen is". This greatest hits collection, with its memorable front-cover photograph, shows why Reed was so unusually magnanimous and effusive. Cohen's self-deprecating words on `Chelsea Hotel' and impassioned vocal performance on `Take This Longing' are just two of twelve examples included here which illustrate why Cohen is talked of in the same breath as legends of popular music like Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan (The only drawback of this particular collection is that it was first released in 1975 and therefore does not include later work, of comparable quality to that featured here, ... This CD suprised me with it's contemprora lyrics and music. Especially I liked Jesus Messiah, God of this city and God Almigty. Four stars because the album has a bit too many similar songs.

A jolly collaboration this, with MK evidently enjoying a chance to explore his Notting Hillbillies side. With the exception of the very last track written by MK, these are all covers of Don Gibson era type tunes and the whole set hangs together most satisfyingly. The recording's a peach too.

This is even better than the first soundtrack and i love every single song. Very pleased to see Bethany's Halo on here, that girl needs to release an album of her own soon. Other highlights are songs by Nada Surf, Jacks Mannequin and Fall Out Boy, who all have guest starred in One Tree Hill. My personal favourite would be recurring guest star Tyler Hiltons cover of 'Missing you', it is truly amazing and i am now a great fan of Tyler Hilton based purely on his efforts in this series as he isn't well known in the UK.

I am not one to use the word 'MASTERPIECE' freely. This is because these days, i feel most people overuse the word 'masterpiece' and i find this to be rather irritating. You know what i mean? Too many albums, films, etc are refered to as masterpieces when they are just ok or good. This album, however is NOT ok or good. It IS a masterpiece.
Firstly, let me say, i am a rock fan. I was brought up on Heavy metal and punk. I'd lived in complete ignorence of Stevie Wonder until a friend recommended this album to me. At first, as you can probably guess, i was hesitant. Its not rock, i thought, why would i like it? Eventually i yielded and got a copy, expecting to give away after i'd heard it once. How wrong i was. This album is a genuine work of genius. Stevie ... Read More:

This was the first album I ever bought and thirty years later I still think it is excelent. It includes two classic Abba number one singles (Take a Chance On Me and Name of The Game), but apart from those every track is pure Abba gold. 'Eagle' sees Abba in full grown up mood and the instrumentation is just fabulous. 'One Man One Woman' gives Frida a chance to shine in full heartbreak mode. 'Move On' was always one of my favourites and has a fabulous melody, if you can ignore the slightly cheesy spoken intro by Bjorn. 'Hole In Your Sole' has tremendous energy and was performed live by Abba in 1977 as part of 'The Girl With Golden Hair' mini musical. 'Thank You For The Music' is perhaps the best known Abba song never to be a major hit. In fact, it wasn't even released as ... Read More:
