Some superb reviews here, not much more you can add really. A fine album, and so much more than "Idle Hands", which as a single is quite misleading as to how rest of the album sounds. Having purchased it on the strength of the Screaming Trees/Queens of the Stone Age connection, I was perhaps expecting something a bit heavier. I honestly only expected something that sounded like a QOTSA side project, somewhere between Masters of Reality's "Deep in the hole" and the Desert Sessions 7/8. But Saturnalia stands on its own just fine. It's terrific hearing Lanegan's vocals again, and probably the best album i've heard this year. Just don't expect anything as up-tempo as "Hangin' tree".

I was really excited when I heard the Killers were finally releasing their second album...then I heard "When You Were Young" and I had no idea what had happened to them, it was like the Synth-Pop of Hot Fuss had been thrown completely out the window. Part of me wondered if the Killers were really just Brandon Flowers and a backing band, and if he had just replaced the entire backing band for this album but apparently it's the same band which still feels a little hard to believe.
So anyway, just when I grew to think "When You Were Young" was a great song, the Killers released "Bones", and the song was just so awful it put me off buying the album and I decided to not even consider doing it. Things that changed my mind were being sent "This ... Read More:

I'm 34, I have a degree in literature, I don't know Lily Allen, but Kate is my new best friend and I really don't know what the negative comments are all about.
The lyrics are original, very eloquent, very very funny in parts, and excellent little stories in themselves. I don't know how to describe the music in terms of music cause I'm 34, don't know Lily Allen and generally haven't got a clue of what's going, but for me it's a great pick-me-up and (try to) sing along, and even the initially more annoying bits (in Mariella) make perfect sense when you listen to the lyrics (now one of my fave passages).
So. Great job, Kate. Loving it.

the most over-rated, unorginal and blandest band ever, the whole modern music scene is an embarassment. this doesnt help..

Only you know your musical tastes and what you like in performers. I have the most eclectic tastes in music imaginable. KT Tunstall gives it all you could ever want from this genre. Simply outstanding on all levels.

Nigel Blackwell is one of the funniest and most trenchant lyricists around, who has written some fantastic songs in the past. So it gives me no pleasure to say that the latest offering from HMHB is well below the high standards we've come to expect.
The targets of the Blackwell ire are, on this aibum, mainly predictable and, what's worse, not very funny, "Blue Badge Abuser" and "Totnes Bickering Fair" being particular examples. "King Of Hi-Vis" takes an idea that Stuart Maconie did in a more amusing way in his recent "Pies and Prejudice" book, while "Took Problem Chimp to Ideal Home Show" has a more amusing title than song.
That's not to say everything is poor. In a pop world full of drug related songs, I can't think of another that deals with steroid ... Read More:

I've known of Pearl Jam for many years, but have only heard Vitalogy previously which is OK without any real stand-out tracks, plus the iconic 'Alive' from this album. However, having read the recommendations in Amazon I decided to take a punt and after only one listen I'm really glad that I did. It sounds fresh with great vocals and heavy guitars: classic rock and miles better than the drivel played on the readily-available channels. Chalk one up for the oldies!

Genre-bending Hot Chip have not only released some of the singles of the year but one of its best albums. As with Gorillaz and Gnarls Barkley recently, mid-way into the `noughties' we are starting to see some real wit and invention in pop music that may come to define the decade. `The Warning' finds them putting heart and soul into their curious mish-mash of folk whimsy, house and electronica. For all the sonics and low-fi trickery, and the comedy lyrics, there is beauty and genuinity shining throughout. Their songs are unconventionally tangential, with phases and subtexts, but pulled off with a playful insouciance that belies some of the technical brilliance.
After the abrasive aural assault of the opener `Careful' is the brilliant single `And I was a boy from school'. Its folksy ... Read More:

Number 1. 9/10
This album at 11 tracks long, 43 minutes, is extremely short, could've been longer but the musical quality of this album is astonishing, perfectly flawless dance music. Though beware of "Time Out From the World" and "Let It Take You" because they are nothing like the rest of the album, "Time Out From the World" is the better of the 2.
