The CD has all the main hits (pre Astronaut) plus a few lesser known hits. Some songs are edited versions so if that is an issue, beware. This is especially evident on the Rio tracks and Ordinary World. For most people, though, these are the versions they know having heard them on the radio for 20+ years. I could say that such and such song should have been included (OK, Violence of Summer) but can not find any real fault in the selection. The sound quality is fine which should not be a surprise; the sound quality of DD was always top class.

Number 1. 9/10
This album at 11 tracks long, 43 minutes, is extremely short, could've been longer but the musical quality of this album is astonishing, perfectly flawless dance music. Though beware of "Time Out From the World" and "Let It Take You" because they are nothing like the rest of the album, "Time Out From the World" is the better of the 2.

I've had this album for a while now, and it's grown to be one that I value a lot. I was a big fan of Transatlanticism, but I feel that Plans is a much more focused and coherent work, and flows better as an album.
Lyrically, Ben Gibbard touches upon the perils and joys of relationships, his thoughts on growing older, and mortality amongst other things. I feel that a reviewer a couple of reviews below has not given Ben enough credit when he points out a grammatical error in his lyrics. Ben Gibbard writes about deeply personal issues, and the "on accident" lyric from Brothers on a Hotel Bed may well be a personal fault in someone close to him, almost an homage to fallability. Make no mistake, Mr Gibbard is a major factor in this review. The music ... Read More:

Pinkerton, released in 1996 is widely regarded as a flop,it wasnt as summery and jovial as their debut which of course boasted the classic single 'buddy holly'.This album is a little more mournful and not as instant but still retains great sing alongs and a good dose of infectious melody, albeit,a little more disguised.
I first got this album on its release and loved it,it appeared to be heavier than their debut yet just as good, time has passed and the only thing that has changed is that i dont think it is as good as their superb debut but it isnt far off.
The album is littered with an array of classy little snappy numbers that have the power to imprint themselves onto your soul, this isnt a perfect album but it isnt far off, well worth your time.

Nigel Blackwell is one of the funniest and most trenchant lyricists around, who has written some fantastic songs in the past. So it gives me no pleasure to say that the latest offering from HMHB is well below the high standards we've come to expect.
The targets of the Blackwell ire are, on this aibum, mainly predictable and, what's worse, not very funny, "Blue Badge Abuser" and "Totnes Bickering Fair" being particular examples. "King Of Hi-Vis" takes an idea that Stuart Maconie did in a more amusing way in his recent "Pies and Prejudice" book, while "Took Problem Chimp to Ideal Home Show" has a more amusing title than song.
That's not to say everything is poor. In a pop world full of drug related songs, I can't think of another that deals with steroid ... Read More:

After hearing a lot of good things about Rachel Unthank in the press and catching a couple of promising sounding tracks on Mike Harding's Folk on 2, I was looking forward to hearing The Bairns in its entirety.
As the finishing bars melted away, I had already lost the will to live and was furiously trying to remember how to fashion a hangman's knot !
This is really, really depressing album. Like June Tabor, Rachel U has a melancholic voice which is perfect for the moody, tragedy of the her songs' subject matter.
Of course death, lost love and regret are stock in trade in Folk music. Unfortunately,Rachel's interpretations makes a traditional mournful ballad like say 'Little Musgrave' delivered by someone like Martin Simpson sound like Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep by comparison! ... Read More:

Delays have somehow been flying beneath the radar of popular acclaim. Surprising, perhaps, given the renaissance of melodic rock in the UK, courtesy of The Feeling and so on.
Delays, however, are a completely different proposition from The Feeling. No guilty pleasures here, just track after track of soaring, uplifting, exquisitely crafted pop/rock/indie-pop (I'm with XTC - This is Pop!)that will leave you with a smile on your face, a spring in your step, and more than one catchy tune in your head!
I've been a fan of Delays since their first "Faded Seaside Glamour" CD, and wouldn't like to chosse between that CD, this one and the intervening "You'll See Colours" collection. If you're open minded enough to enoy any of them I'm sure, like me, you'll end up buying and ... Read More:

I am gutted cos I have lost one of the CDs in this amazing double album. Even with one CD is is TOPS. My favorites are Lemar singing the Darkness Track, and James Blunt singing Lemar..... as I said Pure Gold!

While I agree that there may be more comprehensive Clash sets available (my personal favourite being 'The Story Of The Clash Volume 1') this release does exactly what it says on the tin. All the singles, though not in chronological order - unlike the previous 1991 version, combined with far improved artwork. And it is this that sold me on this CD.
The colourful booklet has been designed with care and features notes from the great and good on each track. Everybody from Pete Townsend to Danny Boyle and many inbetween, get to comment on their favourites and the impact these tracks had on them. Single sleeve artwork and illustrations adorn the liner notes together with some fine shots of the band. All in a slip-sleeved jewel case. And for once, no grammatical mistakes seem to have been made (far too ... Read More:
