This is my favourite of the 2 Specials albums. 'More Specials' is quirkier, but this is equally fun and more up-tempo. I love to leap around to this record at every oportunity, (much to the annoyance of my neighbours). I could wiffle on about all of the profound lyrics and such and Terry Hall's deadpan style, but once you buy this record then you will find out for yourself. Suffice to say that this record is well worth getting for your collection. If you like that 2 tone sound, then it really doesn't get any better than this. And at this price it is a steal!!!!

This is a truly comprehensive CD, containing all the band's hits, from the
electronic-sounding "She's So High" to brand-new indie-ish song "Music Is My Radar", this album contains some classic stuff. "Girls And Boys" and "Parklife" are both sparkling gems of Brit-pop, as is "Country House".
"Charmless Man" is an insanely catchy tune and the four tunes taken from
their eponymous 1997 effort are all present and correct. There is also some obscure stuff, like the ballad-like "To The End", the country-ish "Tender", and the lounge ballad "The Universal". The Haar which rolls off the north sea and obliterates the islands and fishing boats from those who would stand on Fife's East Neuk shores appears to act as some sort a magic creative cloak if we measure the incredible number of musicians and artists who have gained inspiration from the land and sea in this wind blown corner of Scotland.

The Flying Club Cup

The Flying Club Cup contains the most compelling melodies and arrangements of songs inspired by French folk and popular music. Coban's addictive voice and the backing vocals are backed by an appealing instrumental mix that including horns, fiddles, piano, violin, viola, mandolin, brass, accordion, strings and layers of percussion. The sound is cohesive and authentic, for a full impressive sound on these beautiful tunes. My favorites include In The Mausoleum, Cliquot, Nantes and the title track. The mood is introspective, even sad at times, but engaging throughout on this unique and remarkable album. Repeated plays are advised, as the album slowly releases its layers of sonic beauty.

Blink 182 Greatest Hits

Blink 182 were one of the first bands i got into because of my brothers. It was these sort of bands like, Blink, The Offspring, Green Day and Sum 41 that got me into the "rock" side of music when i was about 7 or 8ish. I'm now more into Punk Punk, instead of pop punk. But i cant slate this because it was my gateway band and i do still listen to these occasionaly.
OK so its pop-punk, but who cares? It sounds good, their pretty darn good musicians aswell!

Rufus Wainwright

Rufus Wainwright is a musical and lyrical GENUIS, but.... I heard his albums in reverse order. This obviously being the last I had heard. Want I bought first the double album and it blew me away. The songs (even though all so very different) seemed to flow and you could not wait for the next one. Rufus debut was not like that. Danny Boy is a very painful song about his love for a straight friend that broke his heart, you can really feel his pain in the song. April Fools lifts the spirit of the album and stands out on this album, you hope to hear more songs like this on it, but there is not!! Music from Scrubs - The TV Series

I'll be honest - this won't be an unbiased review. I'm guessing that most people who will purchase/consider purchasing this will be fans of Scrubs, so I am reviewing it from this perspective. I am a Scrubs fanatic, and, like the rest of my kind, I know how impressive the soundtrack has been over the years. This CD is a good collection of those songs.

Obviously, the more well-known artists wouldn't have wanted their songs on this, as they are high-profile in their own right (eg/ Boston, Toto). However, Scrubs has always been a source of exciting new music for me (I don't know if the music is popular in the USA, but its certainly always been new to me). I first heard 'The White One Is Evil' on a friend's iPod, and was immediately caught by the intense layers of music and the really catchy lyrics; also the sheer energy of the song that made me want to dance to this song that I didn't know the words to.

When I got the CD, I immediately listened to it, and loved every single track. Initially, I had my doubts about 'Lucky Star', but I warmed to the song, after I realised that the lyrics were actually quite decent, and the shift in tempo moved the track forwards.

The orchestra-woven 'Time After Time' is a fabulous introduction, and 'Parallel Worlds' explodes on the listener with all its supernatually good force. You actually feel like you're in the attic room with Ed and Alex, and all the weird happenings. ... Read More:

Vienna: Remastered Definitive Edition

If you have not bought this album on CD, get this now. Buy tickets to see them in concert in 2009 and listen to it every week until you know each track inside out.

If Ultravox do not start each gig with Astradyne I'll eat my hat. This is, if not the most commercially attractive piece of work they ever did, it is probably their difinitive track. This one set the standard.

But, then came Vienna. A complete and utter masterpeice. This is one of the greatest pieces of "pop" music ever.

Having got to know each track intimitately, give the album a break for a few weeks and then go back to it. Skip to Sleepwalk, turn up the volume full blast and let it rip! This will get your blood pumping and you'll be begging for more of their music.

Songs for Christmas

It's 6th January and I'm going to play this one last time before I put the Christmas decorations away. Have played this again and again all through the holidays since it arrived.
It is perfect Christmas music, I think, even/especially if your have mixed feelings about the "festive season". The traditional carols are done in his kind of weird, jangly, sincere-but-cool, home-made kind of way (esp on the earlier cds), just beautiful. But nothing at all like carols sung by soaring-voices-of choristers, far from it!
The light hearted stuff is catchy and fun, but not in a tacky commercial way so you can surrender to the silliness of the season without feeling you're selling out, if you know what I mean.
