I love this album soooo much! Jenny Lewis's voice is truly amazing, she could sing anything, including addresses from the phone book, and it would sound fantastic. Add to the mix the Watson Twins voices and Im in heaven!
The songs themselves are sheer class, and the lyrics are witty, dry and very clever...

This is a truly underrated album. At first i hated this album, but as the sensational Radiohead always do, i was sucked in by its brilliance. This album is up their with their best work. From the kick up the arse that is 2+2=5, the dreamy sail to the moon and the simply breathtaking There There this is a top quality album from start to finish. Back drifts also took me several listens, as well as Where I End and You Begin before i realized their greatness. There is something about Radiohead that i cannot put my finger on that sets them apart from any other band. Maybe its their intelligence, their lyrics, their originality, Thom York's insanely good voice or Johnny's magical guitar playing. Im not sure, but they really are in a different league ... Having heard 'Visiter' playing in a record shop I did what I almost never do and asked at the counter what was playing and then promptly bought it! Some tracks stand out immediately, with the great guitar playing and driving drums and others take a few more listens, but once you get a feel for this album you will be very impressed. It's nothing like the usual pap in the charts at the moment (thank heavens) and sounds all the stronger for it. The booklet is very 'spare' to say the least, but that is of minor concern once you've got the album in your stereo and you're enjoying the music they create. If you like bluesy (although not quite the best description), original music then this is the album for you, well worth a try.

It is rare to find an artist with such talent as Elliott Smith. ‘Figure 8’ is a masterpiece in everyway. In my opinion, ‘Figure 8’ was the peak of Elliott’s career. He carefully constructs a record that reflects both a combination of ‘Either/Or’, and ‘Xo’, which creates a creative masterpiece so much so that it is hard to find faults within it. The lyrics throughout the album constantly reflect Elliott’s emotions towards life that creates a real sense of intimacy within the record. As a great fan of Elliott smith, I had never felt that connection truly establish until I heard ‘Figure 8’. The one thing that elevates this album from the rest of Elliott’s work is the collage of folk-rock ... Read More:

There is no need to go into detail here. This album is a sensational masterpiece. I adore each and every track and have listened to it a trazillion times.

I saw Devon Sproule at the Tolpuddle Festival recently - she's a great musician and I loved her set. Afterwards I bought this CD which she was kind enough to sign and to chat for a few minutes. A very normal, friendly lady. I have played this CD almost non-stop since then. It's very evocative of that idealized rural South that I hope still exists. It is totally charming. Devon is a great songwriter but, for me, the songs were not immediately obvious. The lyrics and music are maybe a little eccentric. But all good things take a little effort and, if you persist, I think you will fall in love with this album and the vision of Virginia it conjures up in your mind.

i just discovered this band a few months ago. Having listened to all three of their albums I feel their latest is the most polished and best.
Standout tracks - Rest my Chemistry, Pace is the Trick and Mamouth are fantastic. The rest are all growers and really gel the album unlike their first album and to a smaller extent Antics. In the similar vein as one of my current favourite bands, the Editors they come a very close second, and edge towards the mainstream of band like the Killers. Give it a listen!

I'm also surprised by the lack of reviews for this remarkable album so thought I have to had my own. The song that got me really 'into' them was The New Year and after hearing I brought the album on here and loved straight away, that track and Expo '86 being the real stand outs at first. Then the all album opened up for me and every song was a classic. Lightness is a ear pleasing and joy of a song, with great vocals and 'oh wha-ho's' aplenty. I skip forward to The Sound Of Settling being the most uplifting song on the album 'Old age is just around the bend and I can't wait to go gray'. The title track echoes and wallows with Ben saying 'I need you so much closer' then passenger seat will bring back down to earth with it's light piano sound. We looked giants is a other loud song with ... Read More:

This is the first SY record I've heard (about another 10 followed), and it's still my personal favorite. This time there are actual "songs" in here! Sometimes you can even sing along!! Isn't it strange for a SY record? There are a lot of songs, and a lot of GOOD songs (if not all). It's groovy, heavy, and it's got a definite 90's sound.
That's a good place to start, if you haven't heard anything else by Sonic Youth. It's not "that" weird as the rest of their albums. For me, Sonic Youth never did better than that.
