This was the time when the UK stood up and took notice of Athens' finest. Their bravery in issuing a mandolin led first single was regrettably offset by their foray into cheesy pop. 'Shiny Happy People' and 'Radio Song' aside, this is an excellent record that holds songs of great variety and boasts two of the best songs of that particular era in 'Losing My Religion' and a song so personal that Mr Stipe had to perform it with his back to the audience - 'Country Feedback'. They may have been thrust upon the UK market for all the wrong reasons (see cheesy pop reference above), but in this case the end very definitely justified the means.

Konk/Rak

The Kooks have prooven with Konk/Rak that they've developed greatly from their first album.

Every song is distinguishable and keeps the joyful feel whilst listening.

Watching The Ships Roll In is a truely beautiful song and in my opinion is worth the extra £3 for the double CD album alone.

All the songs give the feeling that they have all had an even ammount of time put in to them, I couldn't find a bad song!

Konk/Rak is definitely worth every penny!

Having read a complimentary review of this band in The Guardian (I think), I caught a glimpse of BSP on 'Later' surrounded by their foliage and was impressed enough to take a chance on this album. The short opening vocal track built my interest further, but what followed was immensely disappointing. I have read a few of the other reviews on here which reference art and BSP's intentions in pursuit of the same. The trouble with rock bands who go on about their music in this way, however, is that they are usually doing little more than spouting a lot of flannel.
'Apologies To Insect Life' has one of those shouted, unintelligible lyrics that loses out to a tuneless thrash. The same crime is committed elsewhere. Rock bands of the 1970s have ... Read More:

Greatest Hits

As this is a greatest hits album I knew what I was getting before I bought it so obviously there was no disappointment there. The songs that are on it are great, some of my favourites.
But personally there are so many more songs that I would have liked to be on there. I don't know if the answer is a double album or replacing some of the songs on this album.
It's still a good album though.

Alright? I've said it. This is the best record I've ever heard, which, by definition, means I think it's better than the majestic Songs For The Deaf. No snap decision this; I bought this when it came out, I thought it then, I haven't changed my mind. Maybe my mind was more open at the time because I wasn't really aware of the importance of Nick Olivieri's role prior to his departure - but I certainly don't think that the album is poorer because he's not on it. In fact, I was delighted that Alain Johannes was able to contribute (and then bring his "Eleven" partner Natasha Schneider with him on the tour).

Blood Sugar Sex Magik

The reason this album took the red hot chili peppers from underground to mainstreme is because of Rick Rubin, Anthoney Kidies described him as the person who makes the chili's complete and I agree after listing to this album.
I can't find a track I don't like ...... SUPERB could listen to this album all day.

Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace

I can't believe how good this album is. It's still got that recognisable Offspring sound yet manages to be orignal at the same time. The only thing I don't understand and gets on my nerves is that it's not in a proper case but a flimsy bit of card instead. Still, the album itself really rocks

The Libertines

i didnt used to know much about the libertines, but when i finally got into them (after the split unfortunatly) i loved them.

Every song on this album is great, although 'campaign of hate' has rather repetitive lyrics, and anyone who has heard it will know what i mean.

To conclude, a must have album, but get 'up the bracket' aswell, because many people see that as even better than this one.
