IMO that is. The album has had more repeated playings than any other album I've bought this year, beating off the likes of MGMT, Kings Of Leon, Hot Chip, etc. The whole album is great but my personal favourite track has to be 'Eyes like Tar'. I hope the guys can follow up album with something equally as good.
Best tracks: "More Than This", "Avalon", "True to Life", "Take a Chance with Me".
Roxy Music began life as a raucous, impossible-to-pin-down, rough, ready, post-modern and decidedly futuristic proposition; by the time of their last album, they'd become an entirely different band. Super-smooth, mature, elegant, streamlined and without a single note in the wrong place. I can imagine there may be some people who loved "Ladytron", "Editions of You" or "In Every Dream Home a Heartache" who refuse to have the time of day for Avalon, and vice versa. Roxy Music were certainly building their way towards this album's peerless perfection the moment they made their comeback in 1979 with their sleek, more chart-friendly ... Read More:

Another limp wristed sappy American band who's vocals suggest that they're not even close to getting over it, whatever it is.
The second track(and perhaps nine)is ok simply by virtue of it's dynamic shifts/guitar line but the rest is tiresome, immature and a little pathetic. These are grown men, singing like they still haven't got over that 'high school love'. How many more bands can there be that employ some whinny voiced singer and write songs about there bad fortune.
Bands like this make acts like Pete Doherty look good.
Also, it sound's like the shins, without any of the stylishly crafted songs.

Like most of the Wedding Present's album's, it takes several listens for it to take hold. There are several songs which would have been hits if they had been released at the band's peak. "Spider-Man On Hollywood", "Palisades", "Model, Actress, Whatever", "Don't Take Me Home Until I'm Drunk", and the single "The Thing I Like Best About Him Is His Girlfriend" are all typical lyrical genius offerings from David Gedge. While it isnt the best album from the band I would say it's better than the previous release, Take Fountain.

Well, as many people know, Ronnie the old vocalist has been replaced with new vocalist Craig Mabbit who was formerly frontman for Blessthefall.
The 2 songs released on their myspace (the flood and this war is ours) are in my opinion probably the 2 best songs on the album.
Opening track 'we wont back down' really sets the pace and gets you tapping your foot to some familiar ETF style music with some aggressive guitar riffs and melodic soloing. Whereas tracks like 'Ashley', 'harder than you know' and 'it's just me' are totally different to what old ETF fans are used to.
This is a great album. People need to give it a chance and take a listen. The music is typical Escape The Fate, but Craig brings something new to the band. He makes it less 'hardcore ... Read More:

When this came out it had very mixed reviews so when I bought it shortly afterwards having only heard Love Spreads and Your star Will Shine I was prepared for dissapointment.
However sitting in a darkened room with this on the headphones certainly told me all I needed to know about this great LP. From the very start of Breaking Into Heavens weird and wonderful middle of a swamp intro the Roses have your attention. Breaking into Heaven is a totally different sound to the Byrd like sound on the first album it's darker heavier but by no means poorer. After a tantalising 11 minute beginning you go into Driving South which has been used many a time on TV as background music, Soccer am ,Top Gear etc perfect driving guitar music with ian Brown rasping vocals telling us that ... Beautiful dance/rave culture/trance/pop/rock n roll euphoria.
this is an epic album, of gigantic proportions
the opener 'Movin on up' is a 70's rock style track with help from a gospel choir, jazz piano and chirpy guitars. then comes 'slip inside this house'. although not written by the scream, the bass guitar and percussion are beautiful, a gloomy yet booming song. 'Dont fight it feel it' is the most uplifting song ive heard. it plays into your brain and any fan of music will appreciate the singing.
the the highlight of the album 'higher than the sun' is a dub epic. althouugh on 4mins long it really will knock you socks off, i cant express just how cool and ice this song is, you have to hear it to realise ther beauty.

Not since the 'Clash' or 'Reservoir Dogs' has a debut been so good, seriously this album is near to perfection; something that has only been achieved by their self titled second album. If you have reservations due the media's portrayal of 'Doherty' ignore them and buy this regardless... and then buy the second album.

The highlights of this album are great. However,I Can See A Liar, Little James And Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is are far from great.Had they been replaced with some of the B-Sides of the era (One Way Road,Let's All Make Believe, etc) it could have been a great album.

A struggle. To sum it up. Likened to bands such as The French Kicks, Jeff Buckley and The White Stripes this album should have been a sure fire winner. But until the third listen I was prepared to give this album 1 or 2 stars. Then I realised that you need to give this album your full attention.
The album begins at a reasonable pace with a distinctly rocky White Stripes-esq track. All music on this album has a twist and a style that makes is a rather difficult listen. There are definite leanings to the Walkmen and French Kicks in the lyrical delivery style.
Maybe it is just this style of music I don't get along with too well, but much like Tom Waits with 'Bone Machine' [2000], The Walkmen 'Bows + Arrows' [2004] I can't listen to more than a couple of tracks before having ... Read More:
