There really should be a national compulsory day-off for the whole nation when a Will Oldham record is released! Because they should be savoured, like a fine wine (which incidentally always goes well with an Uncle Will record)- hence the reason I buy them all on vinyl - a listening experience! He is the benchmark for all songwriters of our generation and he astounds with every record. And this one is a real grower, just like The Letting Go which crept up on you stealthily and threw you to the ground mercilessly and has never let go since! Long live the prince!

This is something resembling what the Clash could do, when they were on blob.
Steely power-pop, delivered at high velocity. Nothing outstandingly brilliant, (you need `Deny' or `Straight to Hell' for that) but not a duff track either. I moaned about lack of cohesion in my `London Calling' review, but this has got it by the bucket-load. In this instance, tensions in the studio were obviously channeled out positively into the songs, and they emerge 100% improved, spitting fire and defiance, refusing to lie down.
This would be a 5 star album if the Classic-Clash triumverate of `White Man (in Hammersmith Palais)', `Complete Control' and `Clash City Rockers' had been originally included (some of the greatest music this country has ever produced!) ... Read More:

I don't really understand why this album received such an under-whelming response, unlike their debut which was welcomed as the best thing since sliced bread. I love Donkey just as much as their first offering - it's more grown up, more honed and you can tell that as a band they've grown in confidence. I can't understand how one person said that 'the party is over' ...I'm listening to the album right now and it's just as lively and infectious as their first. It's such a shame that Donkey has been poorly rated by many rewiers in the press and online, because this album is just full of brilliance - how anyone cannot love 'Move', 'Left Behind', 'Air Painter' and, frankly, every track is totally beyond me! I'd suggest to any CSS fans who are wary of Donkey to ruddy ... Read More:

A fantastic album for all those emo/scene kids out there! The catchy melodies and well-written lyrics combine with thrash guitar and screeching teen American voices to create the perfect emotional album. My favourite tracks are Adalia and Pandora. Perfect for fans of 30STM, Paramore and The Used. Big thumbs up!

Its hard to say things about this album that haven't been said before, or that won't be immediately noticed upon listening to it. So what I want to concentrate on is the flow of the songs, the sheer artistic sense of musicality that Sufjan Stevens has. Each song leads effortlessly on to the next, and its a crazy mixture of half-minute muzak and 5 minute reminiscing, story-telling, faith clanging epics.
There is so much here to hear. I loves it.

There's no disputing that the late, great Elliott Smith had a knack for catchy, pretty tunes. Unlike the average pop song, though, their beauty goes way more than skin deep. You can't move these days for melancholy guys and their guitars... goodbye, my lover, blah blah. But if you're looking for music to nurse you through breakdowns as well as break-ups, then you've come to the right place.
Yeah, these are mostly love songs but so much more. It's hard to explain, but some music you don't just listen to, you kind of absorb it. His fragile, unassuming voice gently shuffles its way into your subconscious and takes root. `Between the Bars' is so beautiful, you could listen to it a million times and never tire of it. Elliott Smith fans generally come in two camps- you either ... Read More:

As another reviewer rightly states, this is not a Greatest Hits package that a Manics devotee would necessarily give their approval too. Bands with such back catalogues are doomed to disappoint someone when they finally succoumb to the cop-out that allows them to release an "album" without actually having to be creative.
Having said that, a singles collection from one of Britain's most popular bands of the last 20 years is very welcome in my house.
There is a theme running through the majority of CDs I've bought in the last 5 years or so. During my student years I was (a) a Blur AND Oasis fan and (b) skint. So I bought Parklife and Definitely Maybe and so on, without being able to afford the "support feature" groups, e.g. Manics, Suede, Supergrass, and all the other bands that ... Read More:

This album was way ahead of it's time, a time in music history when there were only sonic war crimes on music store shelves.
All tracks are excellent - I can't find a track I don't like, which is very unlike me! I don't give stuff 5 stars often either...One of if not the best CD I own.
Release Date May 26, 2008
Combines the fun of the first album with the variety of the second, it seems to me that The Futureheads are one of the UKs most unfairly overlooked acts. It really worries me that quality like this is overlooked while dross like Razorlight sells by the bucketload.
The vocals are stronger than ever, there's some cracking riffs and some pretty exciting drums to boot!! ...what more could you ask for? C'mon The 'heids!!
