Parachutes is still my favourit album from Coldplay. This album contributed to coldplays success with great songs Shivers, Yellow, High Speed, Everythings not lost. What can I say one of the best English bands ever.

I never usually get albums on their day of release; what I normally do is wait for reviews and then go out and buy the album but with Consolers of the Lonely this was not the case. I applaud the raconteurs for bypassing the music press and just letting the fans enjoy the music without some high almighty critic clouding their better judgement. This album is another belter from Jack and co. The album starts off with the hypnotic groove of the near title track Consoler of the Lonely topped off with White's trademark solo we have all come to love. Before you have time to digest the opening song Salute Your Solution bursts in with The Raconteurs heaviest rock songs to date with interlude of a psychedellic keys giving you a moments breather before storming back ... The popularity of this band, i'll start by saying, that i dont think they arent a good band, because they are ok. But no way are they great. Poor singing all round, extremely bad lyrics... Nothing special musically.
Perhaps the most overrated band ever, Oasis seem to continue releasing the same old stuff. Lyrics have progressed worse and worse, the music stays dull and dreary. And Noels poor singing (and liams even worse singing) make these a pretty boring band in my opinion.
I heard one of there new songs the other day (the one with the drawn video, cant remember what its called) And although it wasnt band, it seemed to be all to similar. Alot of the time it starts with a very similar tune to an old song/s but then doesnt carry through ... Read More:

An all time classic album, often imitated, but never approached let alone surpassed. Zack's vocals are incredibly emotional, and the sheer tightness and funking musicality of the band is staggering (and that comes from a guy whos played in bands for 15 years himself.)
I loved this album to death fifteen years ago. Yet, when im teaching kids today and i put it on for them, it seems just as powerful for them as it was for me back then. Stunning.
Release Date May 15, 2006
I bought this album because I really like the track 'Mr Brightside' which is excellent and easily the best thing on the album. Some of the others are ok but I couldn't listen to this from start to finish as it would annoy me intensely. The reason I'm not that fond of it is because I often struggle to see a lot in mainstream pop music generally - it all seems to have either been done before or just doesn't mean anything to me I'm afraid! I appreciate that the band have been immensely successful and I would imagine that if you saw them live it would be a great performance. Not really my kind of thing on a CD though.

Been keeping tabs on Friendly Fires since hearing 'Paris' a year ago and saw them at Reading last month. Theres something about a band that not only knows how to use a cowbell but mixes styles - dance/house beats, 80's style singalong choruses, indie tunes that make you want to get up and dance along.
This is no nu-rave knock off, this is a band clearly having fun and mixing great style tempos doing their own thing. Definately check this band out as not only are they great live (Flaming Lips fun with streamers, tickertape etc) Buy this album as it is a gem. Go on 'Jump in the pool' with Friendly Fires, you won't want to get out for a while!

'Antidotes' dramatically splits opinion between people who normally share similar taste; you either love this album or hate it. For me, this is the best album of the year...and that's saying something seeing that I regard 2008 to have been one of the most rewardingly fertile years for alternative music in a very long time. 'Antidotes' is rich in melody, and effortlessly navigates the emotional gamut, ranging from the edgy and spiky post punk of 'Cassius', to the overwhelming lush and beautiful 'Big Big Love (Fig 2)' & 'Red Socks Pugie'. I hope you possess the Foals 'gene' - your life will be much, much richer for it.
Release Date June 09, 2008
The most uplifting album I've heard for a while. This album is packed with boisterous, singalong classics that fulfill the promise of Costello Music. This is a better album. The Fratellis have obviously gained in confidence and there is evidence of abundant songwriting and technical skill here. On first listen, I was struck by musical reminders of Artic Monkeys (My Friend John), Suede(Lupe Brown), Waterboys and Kasabian (Tell Me a Lie), for example. This was a departure from Costello Music which had a consistent Slade feel. The variety of styles is welcome and promises even better for the future because it suggests a good understanding of what it takes to write great songs.
Release Date January 14, 2008
This album is another of a growing number of sophisticated, intelligent masterpieces that have all the intelligence and artistry of prog rock but without the pretentions of the first appearance of this genre. Hugh full frontal big soundscapes and in particular the crescendo of "Atom" reminicent of A Day in the Life by the Beatles including an air raid siren no less...... Play loud and just let it all wash over you.... surreal
