A nice idea in theory, but unfortunately this was not all I had hoped for. There are touches of genius- Veruca Salt's exquisitely tender cover of 'Somebody' and Rammsteins gritty rendition of 'Stripped', but I was sadly dismayed by the bland offerings by The Cure and Smashing Pumpkins whom I would have expected better from.

a new lineup and a new label did it make any difference?
i would say most definitely yes!
the band have streamlined their sound and reduced the electronics and removed the nu metal sound and tightened up the sound and brought an extremely larger chunk of aggression to the table
this is much more straightforward and direct
and because of this its a joy to hear them tear your face off the second the album erupts from the speakers
for me the two standouts are the two more melodic numbers in the form of the title track and the mighty brooding beast of a song that is bite the hand that bleeds that prove that there is still life and variety/creativity still in the band
nice to see them banish the memory of digimortal well and truely ... Read More:

Fear Factory sat down, and they wrote an album. However, it wasn't so hard because they took their groundbreaking debut album(Soul Of A New Machine), and used the crunching riffs and roaring vocals to build a brand new collection of tracks. Admittedly, only six tracks, but six excellent tracks. Fear Factory are the most respected and volatile band on the planet, not a single bad thing is said about them because there IS NOTHING TO CRITICISE. This is a gret piece of work, taking their tracks and making them sound like new songs. It is nothing like Remanufacture, which is just shallow Dance with FF samples. You can tell the band weren't as involved in Remanufacture's remix than on Fear Is The Mindkiller. BUy this, but only if you like the first album. Many people who say ... Read More:

Classic riff tastic Kreator fodder. There's some properly heavy stuff going on in this album, serious riffing, and by god Mille's voice even sounds great. Violent Revolution was a lovely little tempter, giving us the hope that Kreator were returning to Coma/Extreme days. Well here it is my heavy metal hamsters, back to the glory days.
There are some very melodic pieces in this album, but it just enhances the heaviness. Murder Fantasies is not one of my wife's favourite songs....we were lying in a hotel room in Amsterdam late at night, I was listening to this on my headphones, and all my wife could hear in the darkness was the constant mantra, "I want to kill you, I want to kill you, I want to kill you."
It took her a while to see the funny side of that one. ... Read More:

Right from the very start this album seems determined to prove that it is better than Wisconsin Death Trip (Static-X's first album), however, it just doesn't quite get there. The album still retains the fire and fury from the first album, it just feels a little more restrained. Don't get me wrong, I love this album, just, not as much as their first.
Their sound has changed into a more metal, less industrial sound, but is still very much an Industrial Metal album. My favourite track on the album has to be the song "This Is Not". However, the last two tracks might just as well be one long song, as I find it hard to tell the differance between the two... Ah well, this album still kicks ass!

i would recommend this album to anyone who has a more diverse taste in music than just metal or rock or whatever. this album is not for the closed minded, which metal fans invariably are.
not for little boys who have the opinion:, "highly suprised that Rammstein (A cool industrial metal band) actually helped remix the awsome songs into such rubbish!"

well it seems that im the first person to review this album in over 4 years,a proud moment indeed, anyway, deviant is an album from a band that have split but every now and then appear for the odd gig, this is their second last offical release and shows a band that are more rock than metal and perhaps slightly old school punk as well.
The band are famed for using programming and synths to make an industrial noise but that element is toned down here, there are a few drum and bass segments found here such as on 'hidden agenda' but that isnt the norm here, the sound is more stripped back and safe in a way and it works.
The album speeds by with a comparitive ease, nothing fancy, nothing techncial, just rock with good schorus and good lyrics based on social commentary of the time.Vocalist ... Read More:

"The whole Afghanistan situation was kicking off.Iran had the American hostages...We were taking notice. It kind of culminated with 'Red Mecca'. It's not called that by coincidence. We weren't referencing the ****ing Mecca ballroom in Nottingham!", richard h. kirk re-quoted in 'Rip It Up & Start Again' (Faber, 2005)
Cabaret Voltaire had been round several years already, building on their blend of electronica, dub & avant rock they had already released several classics - 'Nag Nag Nag', 'Baader Meinhof', 'The Set Up', 'This is Entertainment', 'No Escape', 'Do the Mussolini', & their distinctive cover of the Velvets' 'Here She Comes Now.' The 'Living Legends' & 'Original Sound of Sheffield' compilations sum up these formative years well. By 1979, the Sheffield ... Read More:
