As someone who is proud to have Red blood (!) I find this actually not too bad. This is NOT Native American-recorded, however, "Brave" makes no secret of the fact he is Austrian, and the music is not offensive.
In fact, it is a slightly New Agey mix of Native chanting and singing, with flute, sampling of birds occasionally, all against a backing track which is thoughtfully and at times very skillfully put together.
Suitable for everything from headphones while you read, quiet music as you have a nap, calming music to relax boisterous small children, to background music for gift/book shops and Alternative Therapists.

I have not heard any of this kind of African blues music before and I have to say I am intrigued - is this what blues was originally like, or something that has evolved as a fusion of blues and african music, or something different entirely.
Whatever it is, what is true is that listening and making music is worth more that analyzing it and writing about the results.
Ignore the reviews about it being the best blues album ever etc etc and just buy it and listen to it. It's a good, atmospheric, interesting record.

I'm no jazz authority at all, nor was I there on the night, but really, if you enjoy jazz and extemporization, and this doesn't float your boat, then check for a pulse! Soulful, playful, panoramic...just a delight. Heidi Vogel's vocals are breathtaking, the whole thing is simply suffused with sheer musical ability, depth and expression.

I wholeheartedly endorse the comments of degrant: this is an absolutely fantastic disc and Charles Lloyd's best of recent times. Part of that has to do with the fact that 'Rabo de Nube' is a live recording. There is just something really special about listening to four musicians hitting sparks off one another in a live setting when this works. This disc captures the spontaneity and 'in-the-moment' quality beautifully - what a great night this must have been in Basle! Another reason why this is so good is in the electric mix of the personalities themselves. What gives the disc such impetus to my mind is above all the contrast and interplay between Lloyds ethereal, sometimes meandering, sometimes floating, but always expressive playing on saxophone and ... This album was released eight years before I appeared on this earth. I am now 23 years old, and this album means a lot to me. Joni Mitchell's lyrics are effortlessly beautiful, and this album has rapidly taken over 'Blue' as my favourite Joni Mitchell album. It's more than music, there's something timeless and ethereal about this gem that grows and grows with every listen. It's very difficult to describe the effect of the landscapes, emotions and images that are conjured up here. The best way I can describe it is as a musical journey. It's about travelling around the world only to find yourself. The lyrics and the music are fluid and unrestricted, conveying this wonderful essence of travel and discovery.
Sometimes when I listen to this album I wish ... Read More:

I bought this album over 10 years ago and it still sounds as brilliant and in vogue today as it did then. I would even call it one of the best R'n'B albums of all time taking into account I am a big Stevie Wonder fan who unfortunately did not guest on this particular album. Quincy Jones a man who lives and breathes music, producing, arranging and sometimes composing for such greats as Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, George Benson, Michael Jackson .......... not to mention classic soundtracks to films such as The Italian Job and In the Heat of the Night. Back on the Block is one his best 'solo' albums.
From the opening prologue where even Quincy Jones adds his own rap seguing into the title track to a variety ... Read More:

This album is so great because all of Morrison's familiar gems gain something by these live performances. The band is tight, the audience appreciative and Van is firing on all cylinders. Old favourites like Into The Mystic and These Dreams Of You take on new rhythmic and vocal dimensions whilst I Believe To My Soul is a breathtaking R&B workout.
I honestly prefer this magnificent live version of Here Comes The Night with its flowing violins, although the original remains a classic too. Another stunning performance is Gloria, which I first heard in Patti Smith's version, but this one is amazingly gripping and powerful, as demonstrated by the enthusiastic reaction of the audience.
I have very few live albums and as a rule I prefer studio ... Read More:

I received the CD in the post (eventually) in a red velvet box and thought that this would be great...especially the second CD. Unfortunately, the box only contained the one CD and a book....what happened to the missing CD - I only bought this because of the additional CD....I feel that I have been conned and I can't return the CD can I ? Suggest that you think twice before buying this CD.

If you're a fan of John Barrowman then you will know just how talented this man is...he sings, dances, acts and thanks with thanks to the television he can also ice-skate. Is there nothing he can't do?! His voice is as wonderful as he is and if you know anything about John's history in musical theatre then this album will make a perfect addition to your collection. My personal favourite is "sunset boulevard" - vocally rich and a song that really wakes you up.

A lovely introduction to Chet. But often with "best of" albums there is a lot of good music all crammed onto 1 cd, but I'm not complaining. I'm happy to have it in my Chet collection.
