A very well recorded modern Swedish Jazz Trio. If you enjoy Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett and Pat Metheny ( in his "jazzier" moods) then you should really enjoy this. The title track is a haunting slow tune that once heard will not be forgotten. However unlike some Scandinavian jazz CD's there is also variation in tone and tempo and texture.
Svensson also plays keyboards as well as piano and all the group are credited with percussion. But the keyboards blend brilliantly with the piano and the percussion effects are also not at all gimmicky.
If you have heard and enjoyed the group's "Winter in Venice", you will also love this. I give "Gagarin's Point of view" the edge if only for the quite fantastic ... Read More:

Truly in-credible album. bad song? no you won't find a trace of one on here, Anita's voice remains strong, deep and soulful throughout the album, this is old school R&B exactly the way it should be, soft and smooth with a bit of jazz thrown in, oh those saxophones. What more can i say? one of the few albums that i can comfortably listen to all the way through, a true R&B fan who doesn't own this timeless masterpiece really doesn't know what their missing, pure bliss from start to finish.

'Sketches of Spain' is one of those albums that, for some reason, has been talked up so much over the decades that it has now become something that people buy, and say they love, simply because that's what's expected.
A lot of Davis' albums fall into this category - 'On The Corner' is another good example - an almost unlistenable album that many self-conscious music-lovers profess to 'get' when, in reality, they would only be able to tolerate listening to it a few times before putting it away for good (in a smugly conspicuous position, I might add) in the hope that they can impress their friends by owning it.
OK, I'm being a bit extreme here, 'Sketches of Spain' is far from unlistenable; in many places it is very tender and beautiful, in others there ... Read More:

Up until recently I used to have a time on a Monday afternoon where I had to sit down, concentrate and get on with some paper work. This was often my cd of choice. Instead of being in my office at work I was transported to a jazz bar in New York, relaxing and enjoying myself. That was my happy place, to help me get through the paper work. Soon people were asking me if they could borrow this cd because they also found it to be the musical version of someone stroking your head.

Below is the review I recently posted on Amazon.com for the Dave Brubeck Take Five SACD. I really felt I should post the reveiw on Amazon.co.uk also, as there appear to be reviews which relate only to the CD release - same story with US Amazon. Surely there must be others out there that could stand up for this superb SACD album??!!
Although I'm not what I consider to be a great fan of jazz, I have enjoyed Dave Brubeck's music for quite some time. For the last two and a half years or so, I have bought almost only high resolution music (DVD-A or SACD), and was determined to buy this disc soon. For a short while, several years ago, I owned the standard CD version of this album - until I donated it to my father-in-law. For anyone reading this reveiw, I can ... Read More:

What an excellent album - I bought it on vinyl when it came out first time around (yes I'm that old and more!) and subsequently on CD. Not a duff track in sight. Wonderful life is great but the sweetest smile stands head and shoulders above the rest - if this does not melt your heart then I am afraid it must be made of wood. Watch out for it in a remake of a love film soon!

Of all Buddy Miles' albums (see my other review on the Best of Buddy Miles for details) this is perhaps his most consistent, at a touch. It features stellar performances from Miles' band, and also some of his best tunes, but not all. A good place to start if you don't own any Miles albums, and definitely first choice over the disappointing Best of. The main drawback with this album is that it may very well leave you hungry for more, and until his other albums of this period are re-issued, the Best of is the only place to go next. Fans of funk, funkrock and soul will find heaps of enjoyment in this disc. A sadly, criminally under-rated artist whose only claim to fame seems to be that he was Hendrix's drummer in the short lived Band of Gypsies. This album proves beyond any ... Read More:

i first fell in love with enya's music at the age of 10, when introduced to this fabulous album by my mum. i have since purchased three further copies of the cd (i have one in the car, and one in the house), after having worn out my first!!
i have all of eny's cd's, but this remains my favourite. i find the music absolutely moving, and must listen to at least some of the cd every single day, yet i have never once become bored of it (even after listening to it for the last 21 years!!!).
all tracks on this album are absolute perfection, but in particular, the fabulous "exile" which is both haunting and soothing, and almost leaves me in a trance whenever i listen to it.
i would recommend buying this cd to anybody!! i certainly will again when i have worn out ... Read More:

For me, this CD is the one that I play over and over and over again.
I never tire of hearing it. It is just so well made - every bar of every track.
