Until now there's never been a comprehensive collection of what were the singles hits in Jazz in the 60s.It's a fascinating backwater of American popular music which began with the Dave Brubeck Quartet who put 5 titles on the top 100 with Take 5 as the biggest-and with music already about 3 years old.
Possibly it began with the British-Chris Barber had a couple of hit singles in 1959 and was followed up to 1962 with Kenny Ball,Acker Bilk and Victor Feldman-whose groovy version of A taste of honey has never been made available on CD until now-this was recorded in the States at the same time as the vocal version by Lenny Welch.
Another British item here is Johnny Dankworth's African Waltz which only bubbled under but other versions ... Read More:

Keeps-you-smiling music! One of the best voices that ever graced the music business. My 17 year old thinks she's as amazing as I do.

A must have album. Very close to that elusive thing we call perfection. There are no tracks i feel the need to skip when listening to this album. I will certainly never tire of it and I've already listened to it numerous times. This has so much more to offer than Moon Safari by Air.Just buy it!

This is so mellow and dreamy. A perfect accompaniment to a 'deep' mood. Only don't listen to it whilst driving or operating heavy machinery as you'll probably find yourself falling asleep! Oh, and she has the most adorable chin cleft, not that it's evident just from listening to her singing, though. I think listening to this has cheered me up. It might work for you too!

As a non-aficionado of jazz, I bought this album with mixed feelings. Excitement at the prospect of listening to a true masterpiece, mixed with a certain amount of scepticism...surely it can't be THAT good...can it?
I must admit, I look for a bit more out of my music. Being transported to another plane, however, is something I rarely experience. But then Kind of Blue is not an ordinary album. The skill and inherent ability of the players shines through, but it's so much more than the sum of its parts. It's one of those rare things, in that it's a album you could listen to all day and yet never grow bored.
You can't describe Kind of Blue...you just know you've never really heard anything like it before. You're not likely to forget this ... Read More:

I got this album about six months ago, liked it immediately and like it even more now. I love every song, although this is not the full version - which I got and think is much better cos it has some extra tracks. I think this is easily one of the best albums i have ever heard, ever! I recommend this to anyone who loves good music!

Well, I have just worked my way through 70 reviews of this wonderful album, and did not see a single mention of what, to me, is the best track on here, so I thought I would try to redress the balance.
The song in question is the magnificent Nightingale, one of Norah's own compositions. I can remember the first time I listened to this album, it was on in the background whilst we were cooking or something, and the album slipped by beautifully in the background, but when it came to Nightingale, my ears really pricked up and I had to go back and listen to it again.
To me, everything about the song is fantastic, from the vocals to the unusual drumming to the absolute highlight of the song - the guitar solo. I am a bit of a guitar solo nut, and enjoy all genres ... Read More:

One of the favourite CD's in my collection, this record is right up there with the best. Cannonball may be the leader, but Miles is absolutely superb. He plays the tunes like they belong to him and really inspires the band. The thing that impresses me most is Autumn Leaves. Seeing such a common tune on the track listing one thinks 'Oh not again!', but when Miles comes in with the tune, you have to smile with delight - HE'S THAT GOOD! Don't miss out on this great music.

Buddy Guy celebrates his new recording contract with Silvertone by setting out his stall from the very first track - the title which features some exceptionally fiery guitar playing and there's some lovely fluid guitar playing all over this album. As well as this facet Buddy Guy shows his softer - more "bluesier" side on "Five Long Years" and "Black Night" - the two longest tracks on the album. The album features a stellar cast of guitar greats - Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Mark Knopfler but Buddy Guy's guitar burns the brightest of them all. There's an odd cover here of "Mustang Sally" which is taken a tad slower than normal but works well. The last track - "Remembering Stevie" is in homage to the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan and is a beautiful poignant instrumental.
