i was working in a record store when this was released and "tinseltown in the rain" was released and it has taken me till now to realise how great the cd is!
"walk across the rooftops" has echoes of japan (the group) and peter gabriel..very atmosheric and aching vocals 8/10
"tinseltown in the rain" is rated still rated as one of the songs of the 80's that wasn't a hit! and it is'nt hard to see why...aching vocals, stunning lyrics all such a lush arrangement it is a masterpeice! 100/10
"rags to riches" is a haunting vocal track..good 7/10
"stay" is another pop classic 9/10
"easter parade" is so haunting track..turn the lights off and indulge yourself 9/10

Like the sea itself, Maiden Voyage is vast and epic- flirting with adventure and myth. It is Herbie Hancock's tour de force- what the wonderous Speak No Evil was to his Blue Note peer, Wayne Shorter- ie. representing the composer/pianist at his imaginitive peak. We can only imagine what kind of zone Freddie Hubbard, George Coleman, Ron Carter and Tony Williams must have been during the recording of this masterpiece- so wonderfully coherent yet brimming with subtle musical conflict. And Hancock's playing is simply majestic.
The opening track is stunningly simple- you might feel a little uninspired by the low-key opening, but then, all of a sudden, it all opens out beautifully during the trumpet solo. This short flourish embodies the enitre ... Read More:

"Being There" takes the quiet rapture of the trio's previous album (The Ground) to a new level.
There are beautiful slow pieces that gradually unfold with paradoxically crystalline warmth (At Home, Draw Near, Sani, Still There), an intriguing angular piece (Karmosin) and three up-tempo numbers - the funky Blessed Feet, the Spanish-tinged Where We Went and my favourite, Vicar Street. Half of the track is a tense, urgent build-up that then resolves into a gorgeous yearning theme.
I've seen some great drummers and percussionists in my time (e.g. Airto Moreira, Mike Shrieve of Santana, Zakir Hussein) and the trio's Jarle Vesperstad is up there with the best, but in his own distinctive way. In his hands a standard drum kit becomes a real ... Read More:

I love Billie Holiday and have for a long time.
Her voice haunts my soul every time I hear it, it reminds me of the first time I heard it in a cafe in Soho London, time seem to stand still as she sang "Strange Fruit".
This box set is a perfect start to her music and you can see the all other music from jazz to hip hop flowing through it, if you have never heard her sing then I plead with you to buy this boxset and start a journey that will take you to new highs.
A good start to female jazz vocals and from the queen herself.

This is an excellent update of the previously released "My Way: The Best pf Frank Sinatra": the record company have added a whole new CD! The single album was already terrific value for money, containing as it did Frank's best loved and most well known songs but the addition of the extra CD has made this an indispensable album for anyone wanting to add some Frank Sinatra to their CD collection - it just beats all the other competition clean out of sight!

I have been using this cd for some time now on and off. I have always found that it helps me relax and feel very calm. Following recent surgery I have used the cd every day and found that my overall well being has improved by a quantum leap.
Using the cd is a beautiful experience in itself and I would recommend it to anyone new to meditation or those in need of physical healing.

Three times previously on Amazon I've had the pleasure of giving top marks to the expert accomplishments of Acoustic Triangle for their scintillating music-making. Now I can do so again, but with the wish I could somehow overtop the best of praises. Wonderfully recorded by Bob Whitney, and as always tastefully produced by Malcolm Creese, who also plays the heartbeat bass, this time we have innovation to add to the superior compositional inventions of Tim Garland on reeds and Gwilym Simcock on piano and French horn. Previous discs and the product description above tells us what sort of music to expect, and now we have the addition of six string players to add - what? Thin background colour? Swooping sentimental sugar? No, in these fully mature compositions, the strings are an integral ... Read More:

The words "classic album" are frequently used. In some albums it's justified (The Beatles - Revolver, Michael Jackson - Thriller, Iron Maiden - Number Of The Beast, Dusty Springfield - Dusty In Memphis).
In some it's not (Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon, The Beatles - Sgt Pepper, Radiohead - The Bends, Westside Story Soundtrack).
However, Songs For Swinging Lovers is without doubt, up there with the greats. From start to finish, it is pure perfection. You Make Me Feel So Young, I've Got You Under My Skin, To Marvelous For Words, How About You......
Sinatra is a very understated singer, he doesn't have to try and be athletic; the words just roll off his tongue and his clarity and diction are perfect.
Nelson Riddle is associated with this ... Read More:
