This is an unusual album... it's jazz, but not as you know it. I can even hear hints of Tori Amos on 'Well' and Radiohead on 'Dinosaur Die'. The musicianship of these three is just stunning and what really strikes me so much about the album is the production, it's so beautifully engineered, so flawless, it's a treat every time it's played. All the tracks are good, some more beautiful than others, with great, soaring musical landscapes that Cowley manages to conjure up on the piano. Really great drumming and double bass too. Highly recommended.

The Very Best Of Diana Krall

A 'best of' was always going to be a compromise from such a prolific artist. However, one of the really good things about this album is that it was simultaneously released on vinyl and it sounds simply magnificent. All of you that bought the CD - confine it to the car and buy a proper audio medium. Vinyl was made for Ms Krall's sublime voice. What's also great is that many of these tracks were not previously released on vinyl and to hear 'Peel me a grape' 'East of the Sun' 'Look of love' and others in their full glory is a real treat. A great album from a rare and truly talented artist, buy without hesitation. "Inarticulate Speech Of the Heart" is part of the 2nd wave of Van Morrison remastered reissues to hit the shops in 2008 (see full list below). Released Monday 30 June 2008 in the UK and 1 July 2008 in the USA, it boasts an upgraded booklet, a supposedly new 96k/24 bit remaster and 2 bonus tracks for the first time.

Here's the layout (56:31 minutes):
Tracks 1 to 10 make the album originally released in March 1983 on Mercury Records
Tracks 11 and 12 are Alternate Takes of "Cry For Home" and "Inarticulate Speech Of The Heart No.2" and both are previously unreleased bonus tracks exclusive to this disc

The Dude

I bought 'The Dude' as an audio tape when it first came out and it travelled the world with me when I went on holiday. Absolutely amazing sounds when chillin' around the pool. If you've ever been in a relationship it's impossible to listen to the words of 'Just Once' and not empathise. I still have the tape (cover faded with the sun) but bought the CD when that came out and continue to get as much pleasure from listening to it as I did in the 80's. If you haven't got it in your collection and you're a lover of perfection then I urge you to buy it!

Reading Buble reviews are a paradox in that die hard fans rave about him (and get `useful review' votes from other die hard fans) while other more critical reviews get slammed. How about an attempt at objectivity?
Buble is a wonderful vocalist, but there honestly is no musical originality here. If you are seeking music for a dash of innovation or emotion - or anything I can think of really - Buble really cannot deliver it. It is the culinary equivalent of an excellent drink of water - perfect every way, but without any describable qualities. I last heard this playing in an airport lounge - and that really says it all. This is perfectly acceptable background music which you will probably hear in US convention centers or in Blackpool at a middle aged party event. ... Read More:

I own several of MD's album - my personal favourite being Sketches of Spain. This album, which is rather dull, I made the mistake of buying on the basis of the track Rocker on a compilation. It's dificult to describe, but to me the sound is too undifferenciated to let the melodies and tune speak. It is an ambient album. Pleasant, but doesn't set the blood racing. Instead, buy in A Silent Way, Sketches... or Kind of Blue.....Or better yet by the Best of Blue Note Comp' - not a duff track on it

A Single Woman: Expanded Edition

I have lived with the original cd since its 1993 release. It was always a worthy addition to her repertoire, the lush settings remind me of Billie Holliday's Lady in Satin. I love the interpretations of the 3 Rod McKuen songs very mature and insightful. In addition, there are fine reworkings of 2 Simone classics "If I should lose you" and "Just say I love him". I enjoyed the re-working of "Papa can you hear me" from the Yentl film soundtrack; Nina personalised the song to give an insight into her relationship with her own father. Finally, I love the humour of her composition "Marry me" - a great ending to the original recording.
We then come to the 7 cuts tracks that did not make the original CD. 2 tracks "Basball boogie" and "The times they are a changin" ... Read More:
