From Spirituals to Swing
I was surprised by the shape and size of the package when these 3 CDs arrived. They come in an attractive box together with a copy of the programme for the first concert (including the contemporary adverts) and copious, fascinating, notes about the music, performers and history of releases on disc. The recordings from the two concerts are interspersed with studio recordings of small groups primarily drawn from the Basie band.

Having bought all of the official Capitol / EMI Nat King Cole releases on CD for the best part of 15 years I am pleased to be able to recommend both this Bear Family Box along with its companion Set STARDUST - to any hard core NCC fan, as it represents the most practical way of collecting all of Nat's Capitol catalogue from (in this case) 1960 - 1964.
