This has got to be my favourite solo piano recording from recent times. Gismonti's compositions and his piano technique are truly stunning and awe inspiring. Contemporary music that manages to be melodic, emotional, rhythmic... a rare accomplishiment that manages to sit comfortably between the worlds of classical, jazz and brazilian music.

Also check out "Danca Dos Escravos" on ECM to hear Egberto's mind blowing solo guitar.

Buy both, and be very scared... this guy is blessed with superhuman musical talents!

some records last the test of time. This is one of them, still fresh. Its immaculately conceived with great sound quality.
Intelligent funk! i hate to use the word,
bur great orchestration mixing classical, jazz rock and funk. everything works on this album.
Superstrut one of the best funk tunes ever and hardly played souding more contemporary now than ever.

This is by far the best Astrud Gilberto compilation I've heard. Don't waste your time with any other collection - buy this, it's got the BEST live takes and studio recordings. A must.

I saw Marcio Faraco playing support to I forget who - and I went straight out to buy this CD. I had never heard of him before that. I think he is Brazilian relocated to France.

Like a previous reviewer I don't understand a word he's singing about - but it all sounds great. My copy of the CD (bought in the UK) also has the French translation.

The first/title track (Ciranda) has Marcio singing with Chico Buarque on it, so you know right from the off this is a class act. If you think you might like melodic Brazilian music, with lush string arrangements, and a smooth vocal crooning over the top, then this is definately for you - go on treat yourself.
