Yo-Yo Ma performs Appassionato with superb technique, and the music on this album is sublime, mystical, sensual, optimistic, gentle and powerful at the same time. A real treat for those who seek an emotional challenge and a profound artistic experience. The more I listen to this CD the more I am astonished by the great selection of the music. It's always such a strong moment when the Cello meets the Oboe in "Gabriel's Oboe" (The Mission) and how they reach for each other and rise together into the most mesmerizing interaction - one is transported to a world of beautiful feelings by this music and how it is played here.

This compilation is so seriously good; Nascente need to be congratulated for their time, effort & obvious devotion in sourcing high quality world (well African/Latin anyway) music for this collection. Trust me, it's worth a lot more than £8.99.

This is an excellent compilation which is Uptempo & On The Bossa Side of Jazz, tracks which some of us have been spinning in clubs on the original vinyl for years now onto CD! The outstanding track for me is Bala Com Bala a hard Bossa dancfloor filler from Elis Regina, Enjoy!

This is my favorite Pat Metheny Group CD, capturing the verve, technique, warmth and technicality of the band. 'Have You Heard' could produce the disturbing spectacle of my dancing if I was a dancing man - but in my head I am moving to the music. 'First Circle' is a wonderful building composition with the best of jazz and the best of sophisticated ensemble progressive music (no insult in my book). The jazz-fusion Brazilian themes later into the recording warm the heart and make you gasp at points, such is the invention of Metheney's guitar solos. Our frontal lobes are given a stretch for the 'Half-Life of Absolution', a long and sometimes difficult track that gets to you as you grasp the themes, a bit like modern classical music (but in a ... This CD should be referenced onto a sister recording by Stan Getz: Jazz Samba (the original work). Basically, this recording is more of the same - but better in my opinion.
There is still the excellent rich Sax work of Getz and the great Guitar work of Bonfa. Also included this time are some equally impressive Latin American vocals on some tracks. Note that the vocalist is probably not Astrid Gilberto.
I liked this CD for the warmth of the bass and the utter smoothness of the Sax. The guitar work is good too.
The vocal tracks make a change from the totally instrumental Jazz Samba recording, breaking up the recording.
On a technical note there is minimal production content( as recorded circa 1963)- which ... Read More:

In my view, the best of any of the jazz bossa nova recordings made by Stan Getz. Long tracks with wonderfully interwoven playing by both artists which turned me into a fan of Laurindo Almeida. Listen to some of the recordings he made with Charlie Byrd.
