King's albums are a patchy lot to be honest and, it has to be said, some are poor stuff. This one is just the deal, all the way through. All but one of the tracks are written by by Dr John and the sadly missed Doc Pomus with Fathead Newman and Hank Crawford on sax and all are tremendous. The arrangements on such as The Victim and Born Again Human are outstanding. King plays blindingly throughout with passion grace and fire (as they say). Consistent brilliance, its just too damn short. Buy.

The sad news of Little Milton (Campbell)'s death on 4/8/05 has an added significance because, as 'The Times' said in his obituary: 'LITTLE MILTON was one of the last blues singers to have come from the prewar world of sharecropping in the Mississippi Delta from which so many of the great blues performers came.'
