hate to say this but my fears were proven about this compilation. Ministry Of Sound started as the one of the biggest club labels going, but sinse has become far too comercialised, and sadly this is no different.

The name is dead on, this is funky house, but far too commercial for true house music fans. CD1 is very commercial, yet probably the best with some good track choices, Hi tack, Joey Negro, Studio B and Filterfunk tracks are all really good, would have like to have seen them remixed not just mixed but still very listenable

CD2 tries to appeal to the house purists but falls short. There is no life or enegery to the track selection, with sketchy mixing as well (not a lot better than what your cross fading on media ... Read More:

Still listening to CDs such as Clubbers' Guide to Trance or the Ibiza Clubbers' guides from 98 and 99 I just wish MoS could find a way of producing similar mixes which can stand the test of time. I hear great tracks in the clubs month-in and month-out so they haven't even got any excuse.

This one is truly dreadful and I wish I had not bought it. Fourth rate singers layered onto third rate mixes of second rate 80s tracks - I lay down on the beach to listen to this on hols and ended up chucking it in the nearest bin. Lousy - buy it only if you're more at home in a Top of the Pops audience than in a decent club.

Clubber's Guide to 1999: Mixed By Judge Jules

This was a good album, It was an excellent representation of how 1999 panned out in terms of dance music. Judge Jules does some very good mixing on this album and his choice of tracks is brilliant. 1 Minor blip is Julesy's mix from Studio 45 : Freak It into Ruff Drivers Presents Arolla : Dreaming (It sounds like the sort of thing you would hear on a Dave Pearce CD!!) All in all a fantastic addition to my collection of Ministry Of Sound Albums. Shame they arent as good as this anymore isnt it Mr Steve Caneuto? (Mixes the CD's nowadays in case anyone didnt know!)

If you like your dance a little commercial, this is the album for you!

Back in the day you had Armand Van Helden, Phats and Small, ATB & Delerium to name a few... now you have Uniting nations, Eric Prydz & Junior jack. If you love all those commercial dance hits from the late 90s, you'll love this album (not least for the classics on disc 2). Dont wait for a "now thats what i call music album" it'll be full of bloody boy bands and britney...

I picked up this album in the 90's not knowing of DJ Harvey or any of the tracks but it was as soon as playing it for the first time, hearing the first track, that I knew I had found something special.
This is one of the very few albums that have grown with me and lasted my changing, maturing taste in music. Even now, I hear some tracks in a different way and like them more. The mood is in general, very mellow but some tracks are heavenly blissfull like D-note's Garden of of Earlthly Delights and others, rock your pants off jazzy such as Batamania's Jazz Y Motion. There is such a wonderful sound to the whole list.
I have had to buy this CD three times after people at after parties nicking off with it after hearing and liking it so much.

I totally agree with the last reviewer regarding these compilations. They are like Hed Kandi used to be before they became too commercialised. Great sexy house music. I have all of these CDs and there isn't a bad one!! Buy it and enjoy!!

I bought this album of the strength of another CD in the Misistry of Sounds Sessions Series. After hearing the superb Sessions 10:Subliminal Sessions which is mixed by Erick Morrilo and 'Choo Choo' Romero I had to explore this earlier offering from EM. From the first disc which shows his brilliant use of accapelas and flawless mixing he takes you through tracks which established his inimitable style. This continues to the second disc which In my mind opens with a classic 'Dreams'. The quality is maintained through to two stand out tracks 'Dont Give Up' and 'Fun'. Fun features the briliant vocalist Joyclin Brown giving the track that extra edge. These are two CD's which will be in my CD player for a long time. Enjoy!
