Release Date December 11, 1989
Guaranteed to get you smiling regardless of the circumstances and the chances are you'll be singing one of these songs to yourself for hours after listening to it. A good range of moods in the songs but full of superb jokes and showcasing some genuine comedic and musical talent.
Worth noting that the more risque songs are included in their entirety so may be an idea to avoid playing it in front of your elderly grandparents or in the background at children's parties.

I've little to add to the excellent reviews already given for this album. This is a super cd, full of fun brilliantly composed happy songs that will not fail to make you or your little ones smile, or giggle hysterically as you dance around the living room with them. I've yet to find a childrens album that tops it.

Long before the advent of DVD players or video recorders the BBC would create LP records of not surprisingly radio shows and later the soundtrack of television programmes. And so during my youth at the height of my Monty Python obsession I bought this and the other Python LP's to keep me entertained whilst I waited for the next set of repeats to be shown on television.
The first series of Python included some of the greatest sketches to ever be shown on television including the classic Pet Shop sketch, Nudge, Nudge and of course the Lumberjack song. Routines so popular they not only graced this LP but every Python live show. Listening to these on the record was perhaps pointless as they were also being performed daily in school playgrounds ... I will probably buy this because of the presentation and to ensure that my Pink Floyd collection remains complete in every permutation of packaging and mixing. Discussion of every track here is unnecessary, the band can safely rest on its laurels as the most innovative, talented and successful act ever of its genre.
On the debit side there are questions as always - when is some new material going to be released and when are they going to perform live again ?
Release Date September 01, 1994
Two stories are truly gruesome and VERY violent. Not prince overthrowing dragon in woods to save princess, gruesome and violent. I mean creeping envy, revenge and sadistic murder of an elderly lady and a young boy (amongst other things)!
DEFINITELY NOT for all children by any means. Just had to add this review so more critical (discerning?) parents could be warned if needed.
The remaining stories are great. However, The Little Match Girl is very, very sad! But, so true to how some children today must struggle while those with far more than they need walk by. A deeply poignant tale.
We were very disappointed BUT only with the two rotten ones. I've recorded the fabulous ones and chucked the discs away. Erica Johns reads beautifully. ... Read More:

what a fantasic album. i first heard of the penguin cafe orchestra on irelands classic radio whilst on holiday there. on my return home i bought a copy of "a brief history" and my ears have been truly treated. if you have heard anything by the pco but dont own any of their stuff, but like this sort of music then take the plunge you wont regret it and just like me treat your ears.

My boss kindly lent me this set last week. I already had the original version of the "1000 Years" show on CD, but this video adds new dimensions to the performance. Much of the focus, of course, is on RT as he stands at the mike in that characteristic twisted posture, leading with his right shoulder, eyes closed on the ballads, biting off the end of the lines of the fast songs, effortlessly switching from humorous banter to performances of extraordinary intensity, and playing just about the best acoustic guitar you've ever heard. This latter skill is well showcased in rhis unbelievably eclectic set, from his picking out of the intricate melody on the Gilbert and Sullivan number, to the rhythmic, funky thump that drives "So Ben Mi Ca Bon Tempo" and the expert jazz-based ...
