Often called the greatest unknown guitarist in the world, certainly in the country blues arena he is the greatest known guitarist as well, SRV is not on the same planet as this guy. Quite simply the most awesome guitar soloing you will ever hear.
Roys problem was he was a genuine tortured soul and as such his albums could be inconsistent, so my advice is stick to the best compilations from his three labels:The Millenium Collection (Polydor), Guitar on Fire (Atlantic) & Deluxe (Alligator).
This early 90's compilation includes unreleased session material which is not the best quality and has none of Roys work on the alligator label. It should be avoided as it has now been superceded by the three above.

Doesn't immediately appeal but theres some typical BB King stuff on here. It's worth buying but wouldn't necessarily top my list of must haves.
Production wise the sound suffers on some tracks from over use of Hammond organ and horns. Other-wise this is a laid back collection of enjoyable bluesy stuff. Not really too demanding for the artist, nothing new or challenging for the listener, Mr King doing his stuff, no fluff, just pounding blues.

I've always had a soft spot for this album, it's rocking but also hints at Gary's imminent departure for pastures 'blues'. The Buchanan cover of 'The Messiah Will Come Again' is simply stunning and whilst satisfying the Parisienne Walkways fans it also shows Mr Moore throwing down his blues gauntlet, one he would subsequently pick up on 'Still Got The Blues'. The Ozzy track is good, as is Ready For Love. It's an 80's/Irish/Rock/Blues hotchpotch which succeeds on all levels. Gary's last 'rock' outing is a winner.

This CD is brilliantly crafted. Every song can stand alone on its own merits. The play list is a mix of rock and ballads. The words bonnie sings are meaningful and will touch your heart. The music remains fresh and you will always be able to go back to this album and listen to it time after time. "Circle Dance" is worth a special mention.

During the three years or so covered on these two discs, Fleetwood Mac evolved from being a blues band to being something else entirely, and they still had another four fraught years to go before Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks were to join the remaining members and turn them into a license for printing money. The original line-up that signed to Blue Horizon in 1967 stayed relatively stable during these three years but apparently Jeremy Spencer's unwillingness to collaborate with Peter Green on his boss's material meant that a third guitarist was drafted into the band.
Eighteen-year old Danny Kirwan from the band Boilerhouse joined in August 1968, and made his BBC debut later that month with a live broadcast for the Radio One ... Read More:

This looks to me like an absolute bargain for a cd that should be in all BB fans' collections.
Assuming that you're not tempted by that "Definitive Best of" collection, you need to have When Love Comes to Town and To Know You is to Love You somewhere and this seems as good a place as any. There are other classic tracks too (I'm especially keen on Ghetto Woman) but given how varied the collection is there are bound to be one or two tracks that don't tickle your fancy.
There's a certain feel to this album that's difficult to describe. The instantly recognisable sound of BB's guitar is such a perfect overlay on top of the rest of the music. It's a bit like being a Disney animator, where you have all the background on one sheet ... Read More:

Excellent and historical performance for fans of Stevie. The sound is very good although is not 5.1 and the image is not bad. Buy this DVD you'll be very pleased.

With this CD Jimmie Vaughan has perfected his organ trio/dirty blues sound and created one of the few albums that updates blues in a way which is worthwhile and not just an attempt to make a blues record that sells like a rock record (and in most cases sounds like one).
On the guitar, Vaughan's timing and subtle dynamics make him one of the few artists capable of pushing the genre forward in a way that doesn't stamp all over its history. His reliance on fingers>guitar>amp as his only guitar effect set him aside from a slew of blues guitarists desperate to be his late, great brother. His vocals, which started as 'acceptable' are becoming more intimate and seasoned with each outing and the addition of Lou-Ann Barton for a few songs renews a long ... Read More:

as a fan and a musician, this album changed my life and i have found it to be an amazing piece of music art work. obviously, not everyone will like it but robben ford is capable of playing various styles effortlessly and playing complex jazz harmony while mixing it in his blues. plus he has a wonderful voice!
