Hard to believe it's so long ago that I bought this album, not long after it was first released. I was knocked out by it then and time has only heightened my appreciation of it. I have to say that although I tend to think that Gary really found his own (hard rock) niche with the Wild Frontier record, this one remains my favourite. It's basically classic old school hard rock. It's chock full of great tunes - rockers like Don't Take Me For A Loser, Rocking Every Night, End of The World, a magnificent ballad in the shape of Alway's Gonna Love You and the blues based Cold Hearted and I Can't Wait Until Tomorrow. His playing is first class (as always) and he's backed by a stella cast of musicians (Ian Paice, Neil Murray, even Jack Bruce puts in an appearance). ... Read More:

The main album itself is amazing, I just wanted to point how good the bonus disc is. Johnny is in brilliant form and plays one of the best live blues sets ive ever heard, even better than whats on the album. Amazing
Release Date September 10, 1991
I have this album. There are various artists, some well known. But at Christmas time, I play it non-stop. The John Lee Hooker track, Blues For Christmas will rock your socks off. There is plenty of howlin and screamin about heartache and Santa Claus to make you feel the Christmas blues. It is so much fun, you'll forget it is the blues. But you won't forget it next year when you play it again and again. I look forward to the holidays, and I wish there was more of Texas Pete Mayes, Roy Milton, and Canned Heat on albums instead of the awful trite Christmas music that fills the stores. Wear your headphones shopping and listen. You'll love it!

From the wonderful cover, to the great selection of songs, the wonderful musicians (as well as Little Feat there is Taj Mahal, Earl Palmer, Jim Keltner, Van Dyke Parks, Milt Holland etc) and above all Bonnie's fabulous voice; this was a landmark recording that still remains one of her best records. I bought this LP when it first came out in 1973 because of Little Feat's involvement but it quickly became one of my all time favourite records of all time and I've remained a huge Bonnie Raitt fan ever since. Lowell George started producing the sessions with Little Feat as the backing band but after weeks of partying in the studio very little had been recorded and guitarist John Hall was brought in the finish the project. He did a great job!

Jonny Lang has an incredibly mature voice. For a guy in his early twenties, at the time of recording this album, he sounds amazing, more like some aged blues veteran. His guitar playing is brilliant, full of tone and and feeling. The songs on here are also fantastic. I can't reccommend this album highly enough.

Not the first Gary Moore album I owned - that was actually still got the blues - but whilst learning guitar I got seriously into his stuff and purchased pretty much all his work. Back On The Streets is more imaginative I guess but this is the one I have the biggest soft spot for and the one I would recommend. It's pretty much four guys busting away in a hot studio over their instruments and pounding out proper four/four rock songs. Cozy Powell on drums is as reliable as ever but it's actually the strength of the songs and of course Gary's by turns venomous and beautiful guitar playing that make this album just so bloody good.

I got into RL a few months ago. Word of mouth encouraged me to pick up "Ass Pocket O'Whiskey" and I was astonished at RL's brilliance and immediately distinctive style. Unfortunately, the album in my opinion was ruined by the presence of one Mr Jon Spencer (from Jon Spencer's Blues Explosion), who seemed hell bent on adding his stamp on most of the tracks. Fair play, he was admirer - but frankly the last thing that album needed was some idiot doing his bad Elvis impersonations every five minutes and sticking it where it wasn't wanted.
Therefore, when I heard the news that RL was putting a live album out I was anxious that the result be nothing but pure, RL blues - and thankfully....no wait, let me get this right...THANKFULLY that's exactly what it is. This ... Read More:

Five one day sessions recorded between 1973 and 1978, and you have a CD of 21 tracks of such stripped down intense British R&B that should leave no doubts why Dr.Feelgood are called the "Godfathers of Punk". For a fan like myself it was a joy to finally hear studio versions of live classics such as "Checking up on my Baby" and "I'm a Hog for you Baby", and "Route 66" played as if they owned the right to do the definitive version. Students of the bass guitar and drums should also start here for a lesson in "Solid Rock Foundation". John B.Sparks and The Big Figure built songs to last. The BBC engineers have also my admiration for lifetime service to the "Bash it down and go to the Pub" school of recording. A lesson for all ... Read More:

This year Bonamassa put out a double live "from nowhere in particular" which is just perfect. This one here is an early live performance of Joe, and it feels less polished, rawer, more energetic. It is well worth having, even though I think it is a but pricey. It is the latest Bonamassa cd I just bought, thinking it was just for the collection, but no, for me it is definitely added value, not redundant. The version of Free's "walk in my shadow" is even better here than on the 2008 live.
Top recommendation for guitar lovers!!
