This is the real thing. One of the great live recordings in any genre, it really is "live" with all the imperfections and crowd intrusions of the gig as it happened. BB King was always at the soul end of the blues styles, and this concert was recorded at the time that soul music was really taking off in BBs heartland. That fact is reflected in the performance - brash, noisy and above all entertaining.

The word ultimate tends to get thrown around on cds nowadays, however, I can honestly say it definately applies to this cd. What more can I say except BUY IT! Great vocals and superb guitar playing, it is easy to see why Freddie King was such a massive influence on blues guitarists such as Eric Clapton and Mick Taylor. Absolutely brilliant!

Often called the greatest unknown guitarist in the world, certainly in the country blues arena he is the greatest known guitarist as well, SRV is not on the same planet as this guy. Quite simply the most awesome guitar soloing you will ever hear.
Roys problem was he was a genuine tortured soul and as such his albums could be inconsistent, so my advice is stick to the best compilations from his three labels. ( The classic original albums are the 2 on 1 RB 1st & 2nd Album, Live in Japan & When a Guitar Plays the Blues)
These recordings for the Chicago label Alligator date from the mid eighties and are from Roys final 3 albums. Totally blistering blues rock with guitar to die for. Buy with the polydor era Millenium ... Read More:

This is an amazingly good c.d from one of the new breed blues guitarists. There is not one duff track on the album.Standout tracks being the Bukka White cover Aberdeen, and One Foot On The Path. The vocals are handled superbly by Corey Sterling, and the rest of the band are firing on all cylinders. All in all ,a must for blues rock fans.

Bonnie's recording career with Warner career had ended with some critics thinking that she was finished as a recording artist. They - and Warner - were proved wrong with this, her Capitol debut album, which was more successful than any of her Warner albums. The basic blues-rock style is still there, but this album is a little smoother, so appealing to a wider public. Winning a Grammy award for this album further boosted Bonnie's career.
The album is mainly filled with moody ballads, perhaps reflecting Bonnie's personal life when the album was recorded although Bonnie only wrote two songs - the first track (Nick of time) and the last track (The road's my middle name). The tempo picks up slightly for Thing called love (a John Hiatt song, not ... Read More:

While Bonnie's later albums, beginning with the Grammy-winning Nick of time, brought Bonnie greater commercial success, her earlier music should not be ignored. This compilation provides a selection of Bonnie's recordings from those early years.
Bonnie's roots are in the blues but she could also sing rock, pop, folk and country when she chose to. You won't find any country music here - you'll have to buy the Urban Cowboy soundtrack to hear Bonnie sing country - but all the other influences are to be found somewhere in this collection.
The tracks are taken from the albums Bonnie Raitt (Finest lovin' man, Women be wise), Give it up (Give it up or let it go, Under the falling sky, Love me like a man, Love has no pride), Taking my time ... Read More:

I dislike the album title immensely, it conjures up visions of some compilation album such as his own Ballads & Blues but it is in fact another storming blues album. I still think that "Still Got The Blues" is his best album because I love the guitar tone and the production on that album, Gary to me should occupy that hinterland between rock and blues. Having said that though, I'm really growing to love his blues albums since After Hours. They have a grittiness and power behind them which is addictive. Nobody and I mean nobody plays guitar like Gary. His tone and his feel, coupled with those blistering runs up and down the neck really set him apart from the other axe heroes for me. He just has more soul and more bite. This then, is another fine album. Midnight ... Read More:

I had never heard of Ruthie Foster and went to her session at the Cambridge Folk Festival 2007 more or lees by chance. Wow - what a knock out. Ruthie stole the show and had the whole audience in the palm of her hand. She was sensational! With her roots in gospel she has absorbed other styles and with a vocal power and a sensitivity few can match she is a rounded artist of great accomplishment. I bought this album at the Festival and was almost put off by the title - few artists deserve the adjective "Phenomenal" - but she surely does. I love the way the instrumentation on some of the tracks are into modern jazz while the purity of her voice shines through.
Having bought this on the strengh of the fact that Tedeschi's husband , Derek Trucks plays on this , I was really impressed with this album ( do we still call them that?). What a voice! - pitched somewhere between Aretha Franklin and Bonnie Raitt - soulful in the extreme!. Excellent playing and production !.
