This is an amazingly good c.d from one of the new breed blues guitarists. There is not one duff track on the album.Standout tracks being the Bukka White cover Aberdeen, and One Foot On The Path. The vocals are handled superbly by Corey Sterling, and the rest of the band are firing on all cylinders. All in all ,a must for blues rock fans.

I wouldn't lay claim to knowing a huge amount about blues music, but one thread I've picked up from the blues albums that do make up a good portion of my collection is that sometimes blues is more about 'rhythm' than 'melody'. It's a mood you feel rather than a tune you hum - and I consider that quite true in the case of Hound Dog Taylor.
Hound Dog never considered himself a musician of considerable talent, now that's not to do the man a disservice, but he was as honest about his strengths (the vibe and mood he created) as he was his weaknesses. To say this album is sloppy, ramshackle, unfocused, littered with errors, bum notes and wrong turns is to actually pay it a compliment, because it was the style Hound Dog and his band always went ... Except for a few performers (Ry Cooder's name springs to mind), crossing the multicultural lines is often a recipe for musical disaster. Not so here.
Mississippi born Olu Dara definitely ranks alongside the "good guys". He soaked up various forms of African popular music (and even found his artist name) while on a stint with the Navy. Afterwards, he turned to music and, during the 1970s and 1980s, he gained a reputation as a trumpet/cornet player who could handle all aspects of jazz, be it performing with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers or handling the demands of the free-flowing avant-garde style which formed the basis of the New York Loft scene of that period. He also performed with his own bands and as a studio musician, notably on various ... Read More:

The eleven years between "Still Got The Blues" have been a rum old time for Gary Moore. Sparked by the success of the album Moore spent the first half of the decade cashing in with hi-profile follow-ups such as Live Blues and After Hours. However in 1996 he announced a change of direction and then promptly saw his two subsequent efforts Dark Days In Paradise and Different Beat enjoy decidedly "cool" receptions. Which brings us neatly to this album. It's not to say that this is a bad album; it's not; Moore's firey fretwork will please his fans. It's just that listening to this album creates a sense of strained deja vu. For example his cover of Stormy Monday is a straight cop of "The Sky Is Crying", while the most audacious contribution ... This is perhaps SRV's best album. The opening 'Say What!' is the greatest blues-playing ever, and, believe it or not, it was recorded and played live using a wah-pedal that his elder brother, Jimmie Vaughan, got from Jimi Hendrix when he was supporting him in the sixties. Other highlights include the amazing slow-blues of 'Ain't Gone N' Give Up On Love' (which becomes an unbelievably quick blues that would take Steve Vai's breath away when played live. 'Change It' is a great cover of an old blues song, with a great solo. Earl King's 'Come On (Part 3)' is played like the Hendrix version, and whilst Jimi got the better of him here, his cover of 'Little Wing' (one of the bonus tracks) is way better. The closing four-minute guitar solo is too good to be real, and includes some of ... Read More:

While Bonnie's later albums, beginning with the Grammy-winning Nick of time, brought Bonnie greater commercial success, her earlier music should not be ignored. This compilation provides a selection of Bonnie's recordings from those early years.
Bonnie's roots are in the blues but she could also sing rock, pop, folk and country when she chose to. You won't find any country music here - you'll have to buy the Urban Cowboy soundtrack to hear Bonnie sing country - but all the other influences are to be found somewhere in this collection.
The tracks are taken from the albums Bonnie Raitt (Finest lovin' man, Women be wise), Give it up (Give it up or let it go, Under the falling sky, Love me like a man, Love has no pride), Taking my time (I feel the same, Guilty), Streetlights ... Read More:

Although this album isn't quite the "best album Elvis Costello has made for years", according to many critics, The River In Reverse is very good indeed. The reason those artists collaborated in the first place was for a benefit concert for the survivors of the recent New Orleans disaster and, given their chemistry and mutual respect, they decided to cut an album together. The bluesy, atmospheric title track allures to what happened in New Orleans and will undoubtedly draw you in. My personal favourite is 'International Echo', one of five songs Elvis co-wrote with Toussaint - it features the very best of both artists, Costello's wit and sneering vocals backed with some fantastic piano licks from Allen. It's a real collaboration as well, with a song by Costello (The River In Reverse), seven by Toussaint ... Read More:
