Undoubtedly this is the best introduction to Gary Moore's work with Colosseum II - a classical jazz-rock fusion with strong guitar work from the man himself. If you've not heard CII before, it can be a bit mind-blowing. Compared to the original Colosseum it's like Concorde against the Sopwith Camel - not that there was anything wrong with the original. Gary Moore has earned the status of guitar legend. Buy this CD and find out why. It also has the obligatory track Parisienne Walkways which was co-written with Phil Lynot of Thin Lizzy, but that's a whole other story . . .

OK, look, if you're reading this you don't need me to tell you how good J.J.Cale is! All I can add to the previous reviews is this. Having had the rare good fortune to catch him live on the tour this album was cut from, this CD brings back memories of one of the best gigs I've ever been to. Many nights I've spent with my guitar, strumming away to these tunes, a beer on the table, just as nature intended!

After two decades as a side man for the likes of John Mayall and John Lee Hooker, Walter Trout finally signed a recording contract of his own. His early albums, including this one, were distributed only in Europe and not in his native America. Trout has said in interviews that he feels that he could have done a better job on them but I cannot agree with him. This album approaches perfection as an exposition of magnificent electric blues.
The CD, contains eleven tracks, including one bonus track, of the most powerful blues rock that I have ever heard. The opening track, "Prisoner of a Dream" is one of my favourite electric blues/rock songs of all time. It combines great guitar solos and a strong bass line all topped with terrific ... Read More:

Once in a while a live album really adds to an artist's legacy, producing something different and exciting, rather than just reproducing his studio sound with added crowd noise.
"Live At Carnegie Hall" is such an album. Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, recorded the day after Vaughan's 30th birthday with the on-stage assistance of Stevie's brother Jimmie Lee Vaughan on second guitar, Dr John on his customary piano, and the Roomful of Blues horn section popping up on several tracks.
The sound is not quite as crystal clear as on the magnificent recording of Stevie Ray Vaughan's 1982 Montreux appearence, but it is more than good enough, and the band tears through some of their best songs, including the irresitable "Pride And ... Read More:

The star of the show is Donald Fagen and the best tracks are the excellent, more relaxed, versions of Steely Dan and solo songs. Mike McDonald comes a close second as he wraps his extraordinary vocals around some classic hits. Phoebe Snow is somewhat over-excitable in comparison and too far over the top while Boz Scaggs and Charles Brown weigh in with fine performances. The musicians perform to the highest level by being tight and relaxed at the same time. The concert represented is balanced well as a show and exudes a tremendous 'feel good' atmosphere. The stand-out track for me is Chain Lightning which has a wonderful groove.

I first owned this album as a double vinyl disc set in the 1960s. Lost in my student days at medical college, it is a great pleasure to find it again in CD format. The range of blues styles presented here is an eclectic introduction to the genres of blues music, tracing the origins from trbal and slave group origins through to urban deprived population "black" music.
If anyone is interested in finding out more about the blues, perhaps triggered by a trendy jeans or beer advert sountrack on the TV, then this is a great place to start learning more and exploring the fascinating breadth and depth of this slice of music history.

A great soundtrack from a classic Swayze movie. The Jeff Healy band are superb and give the film that extra something all the way through. The other tracks finish the score off nicely, with even Swayze chipping in!

Like most people who have bought this, I did so on the strength of the connection with Tom Waits. But - I was delighted to find someting that was actually interesting. It's not one for the majority, perhaps, as it doesn't have any candidates for singles, no emotional ballads, no rousing choruses, no teenage indignation. What it does have it some honest to god good musicians, who can play anything from blues to zydeco to surreal, sometimes in the same song, and sound like they're having fun doing it. It may take a couple of listens, but it will keep you coming back to it again and again. Definitely worth trying, if most of what gets put out these days sounds uninspired and familiar to the point of tedium. An earthy, warm sound that is a breath of ... Read More:

This Album captures the energy in Moore's live performances and it's not hard to see why so many refer to his Hard Rock Days as being his best work. Like many great Artists Moores studio work is great but his live performances really bring out his energy, style and raw-rough cut edges giving the music more punch and balls. When you consider this guy sings and plays lead it's hard to see how he can do it all so proficiently.
The standout track on the Album for me is shapes of things where Moore just explodes during the guitar solo and takes it into another dimension for several minutes before returning back elegantly into the song.
Captured from several dates during his Victims Tour this is testament to an absolute Maestro on top ... Read More:
